Circulars are being sent out by the
secretary of the Students' League of
America, giving further particulars
concerning the Students' week at St.
Louis, when representatives from uni
versities all over the country will bo
present. Concerning the league Itself
some facts are given out that aid In
giving enlightenment.
The Students' League of America
was organized last fall. Two branches
were formed: One, known as the' In
tercollegiate branch, to Include uni
versity and college men; and the other,
the Interscholastlc branch, to Include
students of the high schools, normal
schools and private academies of the
country.
The constitution reads: "The pur
pose of this league shall be to further
interest in student activities, to reward
merit in all phases of student life, and
to increase the feeling of brotherhood
among those attending educational In
stitutions." In pursuance of this purpose its di
rectors decided to hold two conventions
at St. Louis in June. Tho meeting of
tno intercollegiate branch will be held
from June 20 to Juno 25. Tho Olympic
college championships will take place
on June 24 and 25, so that all who at
tend the convention can see the games
as well. The meeting of the Inter
scolastlc branch will occur the last
week In June, when the Interscholastk
contests are In progress.
Arrangements are being made which
will be tho means of bringing together
tne largest body of students ever as
sembled. As many phases of student
life as possible will be represented.
There will be a grand oratorical con
test open to students of all colleges.
Tho league Is to give a cash prize for
this event, which will decide the cham
pionship of tho United States, and the
exposition authorities will present var
ious awards of merit.
A joint debate between. teams of two
great universities representing the east
and the west will take place another
evening. This is to be for tho cham
pionship of America. A handsome tro
phy will bo presented to tho winning
team and each individual will receive
a suitable prize.
A grand band contest open to the
various state university bands will also
be a feature. These universities, which
aro Bltuated for tho most part in the
west, have excellent musical organiza
tions, numbering anywhere from 30 to
GO pieces. Several bands have signified
tneir Intention of entering, so the suc
cess of tho affair Is assured. A cash
prize and a handsome- trophy will be,
presented the best band.
An exhibition of college. Journalism
is also boing arranged. This will in
clude all students publications from
the daily paper to thee lass annual.
Various awards of merit will be made.
An intercollegiate chess meet Is also
under way. This promises to attract
the most prominent players of the
country.
Other events aro undor discussion,
and may be added. It is the intention
of the league officials to call this week,
"Student Week," and to make it all the
name implies.
