citations over the successful issue of
their long fight for second class rates.
Last Thursday an Imposing offlJcial
communication arrived from Washing
ton announcing that on further con
sideration the postofflco department had
reversed its former decision. Tho
grounds for the first refusal were that
tho paper was df purely local interest
But the principal replied, so Is every
high school paper, many of which on
joy these rates. Moreover ho contend
ed that tho Academy News was a far
more general interest than most school
publications in that two-thirds of each
IsBue went out of Lincoln, whoreaa in
most cases high school papers have lo
cal circulation only. This difference
arises from the fact that Academy stu
dents aro largely non-resident. Again
the claim is made that in a small way
The News is an exponent of Universi
ty ideas on methods of secondary edu
cation, and aims in the future to make
larger extensions in this line. These
arguments had their effect and this
combined with the influence of Con
gressman E. J. Burkett won tho day.
The next issue of the paper appears
Thursday. Besides the usual features
there aro signed articles by Keo Cur-
rle, Eleanor Barbour, A. H. Miller and !
Kim Akogl. More material comes In
than can be used, even in tho enlarged
fqrm of the paper. The one great fail"
uro is In tho personal and society re
porters, wJdo have practically done
nothing. In fact tho business manager
is threatening to cut these reporters off
from the monthly pay roll.
Miss Irene Ncal has again taken up
her work after a week's absence from
sickness.
Mr. C. P. Craft says that those Hal
ter block Saints will not have such a
snap In tho coming debate with the
Academy as they now fondly expect.

This Is an excellent opportunity to
hear Professor Search who came Into
educational prominence In 1894 by his
aavocacy of what is known as the
"Pueblo Man or Individual Teaching."
The lectures are all free to the pub
