As the peafcon advances it behooves
tho classes to trot out their baseball
tennis. The Senior class has begun
the Rood work, and if a manager can
win a game of baseball the Seniors
will certainly have a walk-away in the
race for the championship. The other
classes should follow the example al
ready set by appointing either baseball
managers or committees, in order that
a schedule may be arranged and the
men set to work. Both football und
bosketball have been very successful
fills year, and four teams have always
been in the race with a will, which has
developed more class feeling than a
dozen rough-houses on the campus, at
the expense of clothes and bushes, and
it is to be hoped that the classes will
not let the baseball season end in the
grand fizzle we witnessed last year.
Baseball has this advantage over foot;
ball and basket ball. That since it is
not as severe as the former and dos
not require a building as does the lat
ter, u scnedule of games can be played
and the championship determined by
percentage instead of having the teams
pair off and the winners play for tie
pennant. The former method is much
moic just to the teams, who thus meet
every other one, and a' longer season is
afforded. If eery team played every
other one twice it would necessita'
a schedule ot twehe games, which
should not be too Ion,; for a month's
playing.
The only suuessful baseball league
last year was the intei -fraternity, and
nothing seems to haw been he aid of
that this ear Its success last yeiv
should insure its icnewal and the fra
ternities will probably foi m their
teams belore very long.
The law st hool leani has not organ
ized as yet, but there will doubtless be
one this s-cason which will equal the
ie(ord made b the team turned out by
that school last year. The Medics have
decided to enter the University ath
letic circle with a trim ot champions
this year, and they solemnly piomirfe

with a spurt by defeating the Lincoln
high school tenm. Considering all these

Another depaitment of athletics
which will engage the attention of
clapsrs is track work. Dr. Clapp is
considering the advisability of having
an intfr-class tield meet in May This
will be a new departure, at Nebrask.i
and promises to he popular from the

tween the Freshmen and Sophomores,
won by the former. With classes as
large as they are at this school thre
schould be no difficulty in each class
presenting a team of ten men, especial
ly when the regular track team squad
numbeis over twenty men, and this is
only a small part of those who would
go into track -work but are prevented
from trying for a place on the Univer
sity team by lack of time or the
thought that there Is "no use." If tills
field day- is made possible it would
doubtless result in moje class enthu
siasm than any other sport, as track
work is always extremely popular.
