Recited :oln The people who attended chapel yes terday morning felt fully paid for their time when they were given such a hu morous treat as the program committi" had prepared for them. The entertain ers for the occasion were Dr. Bixby, the poet philosopher of the State Journal, and Miss Retz, of Drake University, n graduate of the Boston School of Ex pression. Mr. Bixby needed no Introduction and began in a humorous way to ex press his gratitude for the opportunity of an appearance and to offer n few (pologies for never being able to ap pear at his best. After these preliminary remarks he told fi few good stories of a man whose tongue worked on a pivot and was greased at both ends, so that words elided from, them like eels through ;i gi eased auger hole. And the vvi-e mathematician who knew so much. Jti how little. Then he started off on a rhythmic tour and led the audience into his deep laid channel l "iMn humor. Miss Ret, rendered some comical -e lections, which were indeed ery l.u moious, and given in an excellent im personation. The spirit of the boys wa-. well portrayed in connection with the "Mustard Plaster." She intended to give but one recitation, but the crowd was so pleased by the reading that she favored them with another. "The Man Churning." and still .mother about "l.oe.
