"Miss Ella Philips, French instructor
in the Omaha high school, attended the
memorial services of Dr. Edgren last
Sunday.
The Lincoln Planing mills are busy
making a compartment Incubator,
which will be used in the bacteriology
and pathology work of the University.
In advanced plant pathology Mr.
Keysmer Is working on the crown gall
of the raspberry, and Mr. Trltchard on
the crown gall of the apple.

the future.
Mr. F. J. Schaufelberger, who was
here on a short visit with friends, will
remain at home in Hastings until
April and then resume hlB work with
the mining company in Colorado.
The botanical Beminar meeting, In
which Dr. Clements gave a paper on
the "Pronunciation of Botanical
Words" last Friday evening wae an In
teresting one.
Mr. C. N. Gould, now professor of

Dr. BeBsey leaves Lincoln today for
Colorado Springs, Colo., where he will
deliver a scientific address at the dedi
catory services of the new science hall
of the University of that place. Among
some of the other speakers who will
give addresses ore prominent men from
Harvard, Illinois and Wisconsin Universities.
A musical treat of even unusual ex
cellence was rendered before an Im
mense audience at convocation yester
day. "In a Persian Garden," a song
service from tho "Rubalyat" wbh de
livered by Messrs. Johnston and GillcB
ple, Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Holyoke. The
recital lasted about forty minutes, and
was intensely appreciated by all who
heard it.
One of the Interesting programs of
the year was given laBt Friday even
ing by the young men of the Palladian
society. The entertainment consisted
of a burlesque on the P. G. D. C. Each
gentleman was supposed to represent
one of the girls and expose Borne of
her particular peculiarities. The boyB
carried out the .parts In an excellent
mapner and the entire buffonry waB
Several of the University professors
took part In the open forum at the
Lincoln hotel last Friday evening,
Among them were Professors Barbour,
Stuart, Burnett, Smith and Condra.
The Bubject under discussion was the
"Arid Lands of Nebraska," which was
opened with a stereopticon lecture by
Dr. Condra. Many of the prominent
men of Lincoln were present and a
good Bupper and a fine time was re
ported. Y. M. C. A. Mooting.
. The men's mass meeting at the Oli
ver tomorrow at 4 o'clock will take the
form of a patriotic song service. Thonr
who enjoy singing national and other
patriotic hymns will be led by a chorus
of forty voices from St. Paul's M. E
church. Anyone liking a good lively
Bong service will be especially inter
ested in this meeting. All young men
are invited to come out and bring their
voices with them. Doors open at 3:45.

The Palladian Boys' Debating club
will debate the Russo-Jap war next
Saturday evening and every one is in
vited to come. Last Saturday evening
the law excluding anarchists from our
.country was ably discussed and a large
crowd listened to the concise logic and
well chosen rhetoric. Each evening
adds to the spirit and number of the
assembly. Come and be one of us.
Senior Laws Beat Freshmen.
The first of tho law interclass basket
ball games wjis played Thursday night.
The contest wus between the freshmen
and seniors, resulting in a victory for
the latter with a score of 8 to 2. The
teams were even more nearly matched
than the score indicates and while the
game was characterized by rough play
ing at times, yet the audience seemed
satisfied that It was an exhibition of
splendid ball playing. This was espe
cially true of the second half, in which
the freshmen held their opponents
down to one basket Llghtner, Cor
lett (captain), Waltman, Towne and
Mathew represented the seniors, and
Becker, Mathers (captain), Gibson,
Laird and Hutchinson constituted the
freshmen team. Mont Brown acted as
referee.
