The many excellent points in Dr. Edgren's char acter as a scholar wore brought out. His educational achievements weie ic- lowed and attention called to his high standing among the most prominent educators, as a llngulBt of few superiors and his deep knowledge of so many languages. Dr. Bessey dwelt on Dr. Edgren's life as a teacher, laying much stress upon his groat-heartedness and the close communion existing between him and his pupils. Perfecfsympathy ever ex isted between him and those brought Into contact with him, and his dispo sition was one of the kindest to be met with and truly characteristic of a great and humane mam His depart ure to his home In Sweden was regard ed by all here as a personal loss, and his death was the cause of general sor row. C. H. Gero spoke of Dr. Edgren's life as an American citizen, detailing bis war record and delineating upon the services he rendered his adopted coun try, and the recognition of such as evidenced by his rise to the rank of lieutenant. His subsequent career af ter he graduated from college in this country was largely identified with his work here, to which he gave the best of his life. Piofessor Fossler spoke of Dr. Ed gren as a man, as a man in the highest sense of the word. A perfect intimacy existed between him and Pi of. Fos-s lor. and no one is better fitted than the latter to discuss his character. He was a man that had the good of man kind at heart, and one whose laboio have confened a great benefit to oth ei y. He lived and dl?d simply and un pretentiously, though a wise and " hr!i tian man. Gen. Daggett at Chapel Today. This morning General Daggett, who through a mistake failed lo be present in time last wuk. will speak in chapel on the Relief ot Pekin. As one prom inently participating in this famous campaign, no one is- better qualified to speak on this subject, which is lo full of Interest to all. Tomorrow morning Dr. Fling will speak on th Japanese-Russian war, and this will be a discussion well woith hearing. Elwood Mead Cannot Come. Elwood Mead, the noted engineering expert, who was to have spoken in chapel today and .have addressed the Engineering society, has been unable to fulfill his engagement. Though wo aro disappointed at not being able to hear him now, we hope that the op portunity may be offered later on. The Beatrice High School Senior cIbbs visited the University Friday They were chaperoned by Miss Anna V. Day of Beatrice and Principal L. E. Mumford of the high school. The high school faculty acompanied the class and visited classes at the Lincoln high school. The class was very enthusi astic over the visit and gave evidence of their enthusiasm at the inter-high school debate In the even'ng.
