Editorial Remarks
The following article wo clip in Its
entirety from the Kansas University
Weekly:
"The Dally Nebraskan, of last Wed
nesday, has on Interesting editorial on
Nebraska's football outlook for next
year. Aside from pointing out that
Nebraska is in a position to secure
games next year with Iowa, Illinois
and Minnesota, tho editorial says that
Nebraska has proyen her ability to
play up to the "Big Nino" standard.
The editorial says: "Success in college
football Is not confined to winning
alone, but to creating and maintaining
friendly relations with other institu
tions and encouraging sportsmanlike
conduct on tho part of ourselves and
by our example on the part of our op
ponents. That 1b the true secret of
college athletics and we believe that
much has been done here this year
towardB promoting the means to such
a desirable end. In meeting such
strong teams as may be scheduled for
next yar, wo have two opportunities,
both of which are apparent. We will
have an opportunity to excell all past
records and to strengthen our ties
with other institutions. Both of these
alms are or equal Importance, and a
doublo victory will bo ours If both are
realized."
Such Ideas coming from Nebraska
does our hearts good, especially since
Kansas did her share In teaching Ne
braska, the Importance and truth of
such Ideas. It lfl sad, though, to think
that Nebraska Is making up at such a
late date Although Kansas does not
consider herself a possible rival of
the "Big Nine" teams, she would enjoy
a few more games with Nebraska.
Keep up the good work, Nebraska, we
heartily approve of your new ideas.
We are indeed glad that you will have
an opportunity to excell all your past
u cords, and we rejoice with you in
the thought that you believe in
strengthening your ties with other in
stitutions. The statement that Kansasflld her
share in teaching Nebraska the Im
portance and truth of "such ideas" Is
"amusing. Kansas could never formu
late an idea, much less teach It to
anyone- else.. She may believe that we
have taken warning from her record,
as a horrible example, and although
that In itself would bo sufficient In
many Instances to turn anyone from
following In the same path, we have
never laid ourselves open to the neces
sity of an object lesson. We admire
the modesty that Kansas displays In
not considering herself as a possible
rival of the "Big Nine" but we would
certainly have cause for surprise if
sho "lid consider herself . such. We
can not blame her for feeling that she
would enjoy a game with Nebraska.
However, practically all the minor
places on our schedule are filled and
Kansas must wait awhile.
We fully intend to keep up our good
work, being fortified' In the knowledge
that Kansas has exhorted us to. And
.since Kansas eo heartily approves of
our "new Ideas" we think It would be
advisable for hor to change her cQurso
and profit by them, She Is glad that
we hove an opportunity to excel all our
past records and rejoices with us in the
thought that we believe In strengthen
ing our ties with other institutions.
This can be traced to the sympathy
sho feels for us because she has rend
ered It Impossible for herself to sched
ule games with us, and after Inflicting
such a frightful calamity she may think
thnt somo reparation is due. And now
we wlBh to thank the Kansas paper
for tho mildness It has displayed in
dealing with our enormities, and the
concern It has shown in the future of
athletics at this University. With such
Influential moral support our path will
bo made easier, and when we have
climbed to Bt 111 greater heights and
look backward upon the glorious rec
ord we have made, we will ever think
kindly of our Kansas neighbors who
hauled us out of the mire and' started
us along tho straight and narrow way
to higher and better achievements.

The chances seem good for a body of
cadets from this University being Bent
to. the St. Louis fair next summer.
Quite a number of men In the battal
ion had previously intended going, and
tu most of these the idea is especially
Inviting. To others tho chance offered
now has dponed the way so that they
might bo able to attend although pre
viously having no thought of doing so.
No ono doubts the desirability of taking
advantage of this opportunity. The
only question is the possibility. Con
siderable time yet remains in which to
settle this point. In the meanwhile
each man will be able to consider mnt
ters or himself and make up his mind.
U Is seldom that many of the cadets
have such an opportunity for an outing
of this character, and only in this way
can a large number of them find it
possible to attend tho fair. The mat
ter should be kept In sight, until somo
definite conclusion can be arrived at as
to what our University can do.
o
We would advise all who can find it
convenient, to attend as many of the
lectures as possible that are being given
on the University grounds this week
by prominent speakers. Each man is
aspecialiet and able to present in its
fullest scope and meaning some .im
portant subjects. You can find much
to Interest you by attending. Try to
attend part of them at least.
