smoker Friday evening at the chapter

Mies Leila Hunt entertained the
alumnae chapter of Delta Gamma Sat

The Officers' Hop is announced for
January 29. the Friday of examination
week. Messrs. Parker and Mohrman

Messis. E. R. Haddox, of Central
City, Neb.; Thiele of West Point, and
W. H. Arends of Syracuse were initiat
ed into Sigma Chi last Friday evening.

New Course in Philosophy.
A new course In philosophy is offered
by ProfeEsor French. It is as follows:
Cou'se 1G. Philosophy of Religion. A
study of the grounds of religious be
lief in lcw of modern science, philos
ophy, and biblical criticism. The hour
is placed orovislonally at 4 p. m.. Mon
day, Wednesday, and Friday, but may
be changed to suit the convenience of
the class.
The statement In the University cal
endar in respect to course 11 is changed
to read as follows:
"Ethics, an Introductory btudy of
the pioblems of the material Ilfo and
of the history of ethical thought 3

Professor French read a paper on the
"Mechanism of Imitation," befoic the

Physical Association, held at St. Louis.
.Several notable psychologists from the
cast. among them Piofessor Dewey of
Chicago. Professor Munsterberb of
Harvard and Professor Cattell of Co
lumbia, had Interesting papers.

debate Is still undecided. The re
ply to Nebraska's letter of last Friday
regarding the question Kansas sub
mltted that day, Secretary Ryner re
ceived a note yesterday from Professor
Frazler Baying that Nebraska's reply

a two yeors' agreement to debate.
The Inter-class debates at Brown flg
'ire prominently among the events of
the ear.
Missouri is ananging a debate with
Texas to take the place of the Ne
braska debate.
Missouri Is out for the third straight
h tory over Illinois. The debate takes
place at Urbana in April.
At Wisconsin the short-course Agri
cultural Debating society and the Dairy
School Debntlng sch lety are holding a
series of debates on practical ques
tions pertaining to tho work in those
departments.
For conducting the debates in the
Columbia-Cornell-Pennsylvania league.
Prnnnylvanla hab suggested that all
the debates be held on the same date
and on the same question, each Univer
sity having two teams.
At Iowa a board, similar to Nebras
! a'n has been appointed by the Uni
.eiTity sennte to manage the inter
collegiate debates and oratorical con
tests. It is composed of the professor
of public speaking and four other pro-fc:-sois
and two bludents.
For the Kansas-Missouri debate the
justification of the Fifteenth Amend
ment will be debated. Missouri has
the affirmative. Tho debate will take
place at Lawrence the middle of April.
Each institution has won three de
bates of the series bo this year's con
test, says "The MIbbouiI Independent,"
will be of unusual Interest.
