Editorial Remarks ' It Ib now full time to give notice that the trylng-out process for posl- heto, owing to the introduction of new attractions and new systems of train ing, and unusual activity among those Intending to enter the Charter Day contests can be looked for. o Home of the Seniors are Just awak ening to the fact that a theme from them is due. Many have in the rush of duties, been negligent In regard to .e Inditing of their highest and worth iest thoughts for the benefit of the reader, and as a consequence will be obliged to use some unbecoming haste or ask for an extension of time. The work of correcting these themes is something of a task, and a little more expeditious labor on the part of those who aro delinquent would bo appreciat ed. Some of tho Juniors, too, have thus far failed to discharge their obli gations, and returns from them are also awaited. o No more worthy University function has appeared on the social calendar tlons on Tlio Nobraskan Btaff for next this year than the FreBhman Hop. Tho oren and fair way in which all ar rangements for this event have been handled, recommends It to all Uni versity students, and it will doubtless prove one of tho most popular Univer sity functions of the year. The affair will be strictly informal and no change has been made In tho acommodations offered. This will be an excellent op portunity for University Btudents to meet together In a social way and en joy themselves. year will shortly begin. Wo intend to make tho selection of futuro editors of this paper ono of merit alone, and it is with this object in view that tho places will be oponed to competition. Anyone who wishes to try for a place on next year'B staff will bo welcome to do so, and nre only requested to make their wiBhes known. Experience, though de sirable. 1b by no means a requirement, as that can bo acquired by consistent work. A willing spirit and a determin ation to do the best he can is all that Is requited of any student working for a position on our Btaff. We hope to see the editorial posi tions on The Nebrasknn next year tilled with competent students, who undoi stand the work and will be able to maintnin a high standaid. I It nee tho experience acquired by a semester's work will go far towards fitting any bright student for a place on any of tho college publications and educating hi m up to a proper conception of the newspaper idea. It is useless to tell of tne kind of students that we do not want. Wo merely wish lo emphasize the kind tiiat we do want. There is a good training In the work for thoso -who ore willing to exert themselves and help raise Uia.standard of the col lege paper by their own efforts. Again we wish to emphasize the fact that all pobitlons for next year will be strictly competitive; but this does not mean tnat any reporter who has labored well ami shown promise win be crowded out. For all snowing themselves capa ble of doing a good grade of work there will be places. -All desiring to complete for a place should apply at -no NqDraskan editorial fflce at once. o The events constituting the Charter Day athletic program have been an nounced, and special efforts will be put forth by our athletes from now on In preparing to onter tho contests. Es pecially ip thoso "possessed of gymnas tic skill Is there a chance to make a good record for themselves. But there are also events In which others can enter, as the list of contests has been made general and includes arled forms of athletic .competition. Last year one br two' University records.' were broken and several otners close ly approached. And It would not be, nt all surptlslng If equally as good results are obtained this year. Tho Gymnastic Contest recently Introduced proved to be a highly successful Innovation, and the interest worked up thn will be largely added to that which always at tends the Charter Day events. Indoor athletics Is increasing in popularity mi Pawnee Club Contributes $40. The Pawnee club, an organization made up ol IJnhersity students whose homes are at Pawnee City, gave an entertainment while at their home dur ing tho Christmas recess and realized S-lii. which wos turned over to the Temple Fund committee, ihls club Is one of only about three similar organ izations in the University. There should be more. However, they have tho proper University spirit and their work 1b very commendable. It is by such boosts as this that the Fund can be best helped, and not only this, but my good Unlveislty enterprise must win with an organization like this to lend a hand.
