Chancellor Andrews delivered an address on "The Claims of the Church." which was a powerful exposition oi the subject and impressed the vast audience greatly. Among many other forcible points that Dr. Andrews brought out was that- the church is a pipe line between modern and ancient civilization. It being the meeting point where their ideals are blended. The religion of one age through it has been transmitted Into another. It has been the chief agency in educational devel opment, not only In denominational in stitutions, but in secular ones as well. There are a great many agencies in the world to rend apart rather than to bind together. But the church is the great agency which is bringing us into a higher plane of social life. Anvone in sympathy with the ideals that the church is striving to attain, should not remain outside or t ho "hurch. The mere attendance o' church, according to I)r Andrews, does one good. This meeting was one of the most successful meetings of the series, as well as one of the lest attended. A large number of University organiza tions attended in a body, and all were well pleased with the high order of the entertainment provided. An ex cellent feature of the meeting was the music furnished by H. J. W. Seamark. Sophomores Hold Meeting. The Sophomores met yesterday at 10 a. in. in U. 107. to hear the reports of several committees. The mobt Import ant report heard was that of Chair man Mathewson in regard to the Soph omore cap for this year. The commit tee has decided on a small cap of the style ery popular this year. The cap will be dark red in color with white numerals. Mr Mathewson requested that all Sophomores see him at once about these caps or leave orders at Armstrong's The price will be 75 cents. Chairman Waldron of the Temple Fund committee had no report to offer and the meeting .concluded by Presi dent Steen appointing a basket ball committee to consist of Messrs. Wald ron, Wheeler and Lee. Quite a discussion marked the first part of the meeting in regard" to the price charged for the Sophomore Hop. The matter is fully discussed on our editorial page and does not require comment here. Dr. Fling Gives Talk. I)r Fling gave an excellent exposi tion of the best method of teaching European history in the high schools before the class in education 7, methods of instruction, last Thursday. This ecture is to be followed by one from Professor Caldwell on the best method schools. The symposium of lectures given by the heads of departments on the, best methods of teacning the vari ous subjects, supplemented by read ing and discussion, has proven both interesting and profitable.
