The lntioihu tlon of cross country
inns in this Unieisity brings in a fea
tuie thut has acquired great populari
ty In eastern colleges. In some of them
great interest Is displayed and a multi
tude of students turn out and tako
part. Steeplechaso contests are held
regularly between different Institu
tions. In th& west, however, these
cross coimtrjjfruns are a new thing,
but there Is no leason why they should
not become popular and bo firmly' es
tablished when more is known of
ihom The exercise, lo wonderful for
tho results that It produces; for It de
velops poweis of endurance not only
In running, but In the pursuit of many
branches of work. While the general
tendeniey Is toward physical develop
ment, it affords a training In long d1s
taneo running that Is match better
than can be acquired on a limited and
enclosed track. While, of course, only
a mere beginning Is being made now,
It is expected1 that interest will grow
until this new feature of cross coun
try running becomes firmly established
here n a loading and popular form of
oxerdee.
Will Hold Afternoon Meetings.
The tity and University Y M. C. A.
societies will continue this year the
Sunday afternoon meetings which have
proved eo popular in tho past. Large
committees have been appointed to ar
range for these meetings, which will
be initiated' next Sunday afternoon at
4 o'clock in the Oliver theatre. The
services of an accomplished Bpcaker
will be obtained and miiBlc will be
furnished by Prof. Wilbur Starr, for
merly of the University Conservatory
of Music, and by the Conseratory
Male quartet.
Elaborate plane are also being made
for tho Wedn?3day evening prayer
meetings at the association rooms.
ThcEo meetings are especially and en
tirely for (ollcge men and will prove
of great help and interest Secretary
Hinger extends a cordial invitation to
all University men to attend them.
A Quiz Section.
It is the custom among student i
in all eastern Medical colleger to or
ganize quiz c lapses tinder their own
management. Membership to these
classes Ih sometning very much sought
after, as tho number is usually limited,
and tlw best only are able to get in
Enough classes or sections however are
usually formed to tako In all those who
desire to enter.
Somewhat upon this plan a q il
class has been organized In our own
Medical college and1 Is meeting with
groat success. The quiz-master was
chosen at tho . eriic.nl oclety meeting

unanimous choice and ho will conduct
