QJ O, plaminlKewest JAV Dr. Wharton occupied tho convoca tion period yesterday morning with a most Impressive talk onv'Blblo Study." He first called attention to the fact that four courses of Bible, study had been organized extending through tho four years. He Bald that he was not here to lament the fact that Uie Bible had been excluded from the recitation room. It is the best thing that could be done, and there are several reasons why this Is true One Is the lack of capable teaching in the recitation room. A man who is not is genius Is disqual ified to teach tho Bible in the recita tion room. Contributions r n the Bible as a literary book are scant. Beforo pursuing the study of tho Bible as a literary work it must havo a literary color. The University is a state institution, and there are many divisions among the people of the stato as to the char acter of the methods by which tho book fc shall bo studied. No greater animosi ties, hatred, or bitterness exist than those that have arisen out of conten tions over tho Bible. There is no use for a- Bible If we haven't tho right spirit. Hence indeed, there is no cause of regret over the Bible being excluded from tho class room. It is said that Interest in the Bible Is dying out. There is no decadence, but there Is an apathy the same bb exists toward other works. A new Interest, however, should be awakened. The Bible ought to be ytudled by the stu dents who are now laying the founda tion for their future work. It gives a survey of tho whtfle of human life, trac ing the progress of the Individual from primitive times down to his present development. It contains tho great fundamental laws of religion and truth. It Is well to know the mighty forces that make for our righteousness or damnation. Tho Bible discloses the character of God. It contains a clear vision of God rlothed in righteousness and truth. It is above all other books and nowhere Ib such a sense of the power of Al mighty God working in men. No young mnn nr wnmnn enn nfforiltO Ullt it aside. It traces tho evolution of prim itive man to the spiritual man and all the forced that developed him from ani mal life". " If a student enters the course he will study tho Bible. He will bo putting himself under a law. Too many stu dents .-In pursuing their other studies are forgetful of those that aro tho deep est and most fundamental. In these courses a student has tho advantage of his own qyes and the eyes of his fel low, students. Truth may indeed come through tho eyes of one's associates. There Is no law that will make for one person's salvation and for no one else's. Each person Is needed to spread enlightenment among the crowds that toll and call for help, and each should strive to make himself a great factor in this work. Geology Notes. Tho specimens which Dr. E. H. Bar bour and his sister collected last sum mer while In the Sioux country, the Bad Lands, have been mado ready for exhibition. They consist of tho teeth of the Water Deer, teeth of some small carnivorous animals and those of tho rodent. Tho rodents' teeth are excellent specimens. There is also a fossil egg the size of a hen's ogg which shows tho cells In tho shell very plainly. Thero aro also a number of fossil toe bones and a few foBslr seeds, which are very good specimens.
