A class in heavy gymnastics has
ueen organized. There will be several
contests in this kind e)f work next
year, with the usual prizes of medals
for winners. Men with ability along
this line will be given an opportunity
to show their strength next year.

gating certain diseases of applo and
other fruit trees. They, are to stop
kt Tecumseh. Johnson, Auburn, Salem,
Brownvllle, Nemaha City, Table Rock,

of these places they are to visit the
large orcharels In tho vicinity.
Commandant Chase presented J. D.
Ringer and L. E. Hurtz, captainB of
companies B and C, respectively, with
now swords at last evening's drill hour.
The commandant acted In behalf of the
two companies, which gave their com
pany commanders swords as tokens of
good will. Company D presented a
sword to Captain Farnoy on the day
of competitive drill.
Within the past ten elays Professor
BeBsey has been Bked by tho pub
lishers of a series of text-books to pre
pare a book for use In the high schools
of the United States, and also by the
publishers of a cyclopedia to write the
major portion of the botanical matter
Tor this new work. It Is not yet cer
tain whether he will undertake these
tasks, as he Is still at work on a long
overdue book for an eastern publisher.
