Recently threw the hammer 124 feet, "smashing" the old record by 7 feet. Also does well with the discus and shot. Is expected to win the ham mer throw today easily, as the Knox record does not reach his by 4 feet. All Is in readiness for the big meet today. The Galeaburg men arrived over the Burlington thlB morning and are ready for the fray. Nebraska held her final practice last evening, and every man is anxious for 2 o'clock to arrive. The men- are all In good con dition, except Burg, who it Is feared will be seriously handicapped, especial ly In the broad Jump, by a sprained ankle which he received In the pre liminaries a week ago. This Is the event where Knox shines with a record or 22 feet and 3 inches, made by Wil son, their best all around man. The track, which has been rendered very hard by recent wet weatlygr, will be placed In much better condition by the time the first event Is pulled off today. It Is the purpose of those In charge to have everything favorable to the making of good records, and the furnishing of the best of entertainment. Aside from the regular twelve events of the 100-yard dash, pole vault, mile run, sixteen-pound shot put, 220-yard dash, broad Jump, Blxteen-pound ham mer throw, half-mile run, 120-yard and 220-yard hurdles, high Jump, and 440 yard dash, there will be a special fea ture in the way of a half-mile relay race. Each college team, will be com posed of- four men, each of whom runs 220 yards. ThlB event will be, as It was In the home meet, very Interest ing and exciting, and will furnish an excellent climax for the afternoon's en tertainment. The outcome of today's meet 1b quite uncertain. Knox men are reported as saying, "We're going west after the Corohusker'B scalp, and we will re trieve our football defeat of last fall." Nebraska's reply is, "If you can; show us." 'Both teams are in it for blood, and a battle royal will be fought. A comparison of records follows, Ne braska's record first and Knox's sec ond: 100-yard dash, 10 2-5, 10 2-5; pole vault, , 10:6; mile run, 4:52 1-5, 5:00; 16-pound shot put, ao, 35:2; 220 yard dash, 23 2-5, 23 1-5; broad Jump, 21, 22:3; 16-pound hammer throw, Tzack Meet Today I rJMMn1nP 3 m BfiEfitg MAURICE BENEDICT. Nebraska's famous quarterback of '03, who won an enviable record In ath letics while In the Lincoln high school. An all around athlete who inn pole vault and high Jump, and runs the half mile in 2 3-5 lesw than Battell. the 'speedy man from Galesburg. Needs only 2-5 better time to smash the Uni versity record, and It would not be BiirprlBlng If he did this today. 124, 120; half-mile. 2.6 2-5, 2.9; 120 yard hurdle, 18 2-5, 18; high Jump, 5:5. 5:4; 440-yard dash. 54 1-5, 54; 220 yard hurdle. 28 4-5. 25. A comparison of these reveals the following facts: The records in the 100-yard dash, tie; Knox excels by 2 Inches In the shot put and by 1 foot 3 Inches In the broad Jump, by 1-5 in the 440. and 3 4-5 In the 220 hurdle; by 1-5 in the 220-yard dash, and by 2-5 In the 120-ynrd hur dle. Nebraska excels in the mile by 7 4-5, in the hammer throw by 4 feet, In the half-mile by 2 3-5, by 1 Inch in the high Jump. An unsuccessful endeavor was made to secure for today's Issue cuts of the four leading Nebraska track, men, In their track suits. We were unabi'e to secure any. The best we could do was to run the football cuts of Tobln and Benedict The other Nebraska men are as follows: Manning, another L. H. S. man with a "rep." who holds the record for the quarter in the Missouri Valley at 51, three less than that of the Knox man. He will likely tie his old record today. States, one of last year's men, holds the half-mile record at 2.6 1-5, and has never yet been defeated In his event. His record in the preliminaries fell short of thlB by 2 4-5, but he was not pushed In this race. Martin, the weight man, and a member of last year'B team, puts the Bhot 35 feet, and is good In tho hammer throw. Corr, the man who Bmashed the two-mile record by 5 seconds In tho home meet, will not enter today, as there is no two mile race. Burg is a swift man in the 100-yard dash, and does the broad jump well. He will be handicapped today, however, by a sprained anklo. Mouck performs the Kranzlein act in good fashion, but will have to raise his record today to beat his opponent. I. P. Hewitt, who at one time held the record in the 880-yard run, and a mem ber of the team for two years, will do the broad Jump Btunt.
