Editorial Remarks Through a typographical error in yesterday's issue, Borg was given ( redit for winning the 100-yard clash nnd broad Jump won by Hurg. Tobin broke the hammer-throw record, not the shot-put. OO Half a thousand or more high school and other visitors from throughout the state spent a large portion of yester day on the campus and in an inspec tion of the University. We hope they felt at home, and left last night or this morning with greater knowledge nnd liking for their state institution They will be welcome, when they come again, whether their second coming Is as lsitors meiely, or as members of the various University classes. Next week The Nebraska!) will begin the final trying out of its editorial staff lor the first semester of next year. The numerous errors which have crept into the paper tho past few days sufficiently indicate how many mistakes may evade the care of a staff of nearly a semester's experience. So, for the pro bationary efforts of the coming two or three weeks an extra measure of charity is asked. Tho Nebraskan for this semester has been handled in the midst of unnumbered demands on the time and energy of everyone connected with it. Yet the management believes some little improvement has been evi dent, and asks student forbearance during the farther endeavor to get it into still better shape for next year's work. Communicat ions To The Daily Nebraskan: Since the matter of the location of the new buildings is one of such Im portance that no decision should be made without full discussion, 1 would like to make a few remarks. 1 can see no important objection to the location of the new physics build- Hs$s$e$$s TROGRAMSl and student stationery is a' specialty with us. That is why we lead the procession wfyle others follow The Ivy Press Co. J 25 No. l'Mh St. Ing between the armory and Nebraska hall, but the proposal to place one or more of the new structures along the south side of the campus Is not so fre from criticism. At present we have a campus which, when viewed from the south, is one of the most beautiful spots In the city. The north side, of course, is crowded and unsightly. Now, It Is proposed to break Into the south part of it also, nnd to obstruct the view by erecting one or more ouild ings, neither of which, at the pre scribed cost, is likely to be very im posing or beautiful in arc hltcct ure. It Is an evident fact that the Uni versity will soon require more ground for expansion. Then why not get it nt once and locate at least one of the new buildings thereon, instead of per manently and irreparably marring the beauty of the campus by structures which will not only prove an eye-sore to us, but to many generations of stu dents to come? I do not see how members of the faculty can ever again consistently or conscientiously urge upon their stu dents a higher appreciation of the beautiful If they do not now vigorous ly protest against this measure, so diametrically opposed to ait and beauty. 1 believe this sentiment will be re echoed by a majority of those who are truly interested in the continued well-being of the University, and are able to rise above the soidid Ideal of immediate convenience. ONE OF THEM. OO One of the most unfoitunatc "jokes," (if it even worthy of such a name) in the senior annual was the "poetry" en titled "Lucindy's Triumph." That this woithy lady should be made the subject of such a slander In the senior publication is a disgrace to its editors and all concerned. Far better that her virtues be praised and her perse verance and pluck be lauded, than that she be made fun of in such a way flrnnted that no harm was meant, that it was done in thoughtlessness; there is little excuse for it. Had the lady at whom the verse was directed been one of the younger students it might have passed; but her age should have been respected to say nothing of her feelings. No doubt the wiiter of the article and the others concerned i egret what they have done and will guard against a recurrence in the fu ture Hut it is time that a line be drawn somewhere. Wit and humor, if of a high order, are worthy of place, but there is extreme danger that they be Indulged in too freely, doing injus tice to man and hurting their feelings We do not believe the spirit of chivalry is dying out in the University of Ne braska, and we will hope that in the futtnw'e' will have no further cause for having this belief shaken.
