All persons who have possession of
eoolal Items of Interest to University
people would confer a favor upon Tho
Nobraskah by kindly mentioning the
same to the society editor. Since the
society column has tyecomc a special
feature of the Saturday edition, it is
very irpportfut. that a41 social Items
Bhould hayo a, place in its columns.
Fraternities and literary societies
would do well to have one of the mem
bers report all Items of Importance to
this department. Unless such Items are
reported, there Is a possibility of their
being loft out entirely a matter unjust
s?6 all concerned. The Nebraskan is
only too glad to publiBh notices of all
parties, and other matters of interest
to those who participate in the social
life of the University, and will en
dcavor to keep the public enlightened
in tbiB particular.
O
The beginning of the lcnten season
has made little apparent difference in
the social life of the University. As a
rule, students do not observe Lent very
closely, and tho season Is usually
marked by as many parties and social
events as any other season of the year.
As a matter of fact, tho number of
people in school who have religious
scruples against following the course
of their inclination during Lent, is de
cidedly in tho minority, and they are
usually so considerate they give way to
the will of others when it comes to
attending a party or any place where
personal enjoyment Is concerned.
O
Last Saturday The Nebraskan con
tained a notice of the senior prom,
but unfortunately the list of the com
mittee was not glvdn. The list has now
been completed and stands as follows:
Chairman, J. R. Farney, master of
ceremonies, W A. Shock; Misses Ham
ilton, Post, Brookings, Cndy. Bennett,
Gould and Sly, Messrs. Llpp, Smith,
Swan, Hurtz, Fee, Harter, Hedge, Buck
ley, Sowles, Leonard, FergUBon. Black,
and Buck.
O
Ah will be seen, the list of the com
mittee Is quite long, and every fra
ternity and literary socio ty that boasts
of a senior is represented. It Is tho
desire of the ofllclals to make the prom
an affair of the University rather than
of a certain Bet, and the committee has
been named with that Idea In view.
The dance will be held at the Lin
coln hotel, April 17th, Just after Ient,
and Chairman Farney Is putting forth
elaborate effort to make the dance the
supreme social event of the year. A
more extended notice will appear later.
O

"No." replied the professor to The
Nebraskan reporter, "I have no news
today. In fact, I object to publicity
and do not care to have any of my ac
tions exploited In any newspaper.
But You might Just say I am pre
paring an article for the Outlook. And
that reminds me that I had an article
in tho last Issue of the Review of Re
views. You might call attention to
that. Then, too, I expect to be away
next week on a lecture tour. And It
may be Interesting to note that the de
partment has JiiBt received a number
of valuable volumes from abroad, and
that I am engaged In making abstracts
of their contents. My wife Is going
to entertain the ladies of the faculty
this evening. Here Is a speech of mine
that you might make a few excerps
from. Nothing more occurs to me
now. 1 think perhaps that's enough.
I have a strong prejudice against pub
licity, anyhow. It makes people think
you are anxious to be mentioned and
its poor taste. I guess that's all."
