Tho Nobrnflkan, after a Bhort Bimnen
Hlon of three days, appears again and
will continue to appear, It In hoped,
until the end of the year. Tho man
agement Ib well pleased with the huc
cobb that It has had among the buHl
noBB men of Lincoln and If the nupport
that Ib promlBed, by way of advertising,
proveB to be BubBtantlal, there will be
little question as to tne continued Im
provement of tho paper. Now that the
buBlnesH flrina have rallied to the sup
port of tho college paper, It Is dp to
the students themselves to do tho Bame.
A short suspension of tho Dally is
hardly sufficient to Indicate the loss
that the lnsutltutlon would Buffer by a
permanent discontinuance. It Is hoped,
however, that the past three days have
given the Btudent body a hint and that
henceforth every Btudent will not only
appreciate the paper but will give It aid
in every way possible.
The death of MIbb Ellen Smith Ib a
Bevere blow to the people of the Uni
versity. No one came in closer touch
with the Btudents as a whole and no
one had their interests more at heart
than did Miss Smith while she wus
fulfilling her duties as registrar. Her
long and faithful term In the office gave
her an acquaintance with a very large
number of the alumni, all of whom
have sympathized with her during her
Illness, which has been more or less
severe since her resignation a year ago.
The University mourns the loss of one
of Its truest friends and offerB sympa
thy to close friends and relatives of
the deceased.

"Eddie" May Coach Uni Nine
this Spring. Other Notes.
It Ib very probable that Eddie Gor
don, on ex-captaln and pitcher, will
coach the 'varsity baseball team this
year. Gordon has signed as coach with
the Denver Western league team and
Is coaching Colorado University. He
would prefer to coach Nebraska, and
has offered his services for a very rea
sonable sum. We stand in great need
of a baseball coach, especially a man
who Is a twlrler himself, as some new
material will likely have to be devel
oped to help fill the box. Whether
Gordon coaches Nebraska will be de
termined at the athletic board meeting
Monday night.
Supporters of the scarlet and cream
will be delighted to learn that "Bon
net" has entered school and will play
baseball this spring. It was feared
that third base would be a weak spot
In the Unl nine of '03, but with the
regiBtration of Hood these feelings
vanished Immediately. Let the good
work go on.
I.etheby, last year's star twlrler, has
Blgned with the Hutte, Mont., team.
Nebraska will iiiIbb his Btrong arm and
darting curves.
This has been a quiet week in the
track team class. Charter Day exer
cises broke Into the work and de
tracted from Its Uitercst. The men
will get down to systematic practice
next week and the personnel of the
team will be known before long. Can
didates must get in their best licks now
if they expect to win a place. Some
thirty men are competing, and pros
pects for a winning aggregation could
hardly bo brighter.
I. S. C. Student: Negotiations are
under way for a dual field meet with
the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
It is to be hoped that this meet can
be arranged for, as it will give out
athletes a good try out.
G. II. Marsland, '1KJ, la now located
at St. Louis. He expects to be there,
representing Wonnunlaker of Philadel
phia, for about a year and a half. Mrs.
Marsland is still in Lincoln visiting
relatives and friends.
The senior class of the Pawnee City
high school, accompanied by their su
perintendent, Professor Fulmer, vis
ited the University during the fore part
of the week.
Miss Elnora Weldy was absent for a
few days this week on account f ill
ness.
The Sigma Alphs will give a smoker
tonight at the chapter house.
Arthur Bald visited over Sunday at
his home In Aurora.
Aunt Miranda. "Hiram in his last
letter said the folks up there to the
university paid $2,500 for a football
coach."
Uncle Silas. "Well, I'll swan, Miran
da. If that ain't a deuced big price to
pay for any sort of a rig."
