ProfesBor Robblns will speak at con vocation thlB morning. The Dally Cardinal admits that "should Minnesota be the winner on the 27th, Nebraska's claim to the championship of the vrcst will be clear, as she has defeated the Gophers G to 0." It adds, however, that "a vic tory on ThankBglvlng day would give Minnesota the top notch In the list of Big Nine colleges." Of all classes of men the luke-warm non-enthusiastic man Is least deserving of sympathy. The college don't want luke-warm men, the Lord don't want them and It's very likely that the devil don't want them either. Be enthusi astic over something; It's a good thing to be enthusiastic over a dog fight even. Belolt Round Table. Chicago, Wisconsin and Michigan have united to meet the damage suits arlBlng from the collapse of the bleach ers at the Mlchlgan-WlBconBln game. Although at the time It was not sup posed that more than half a dozen per sons had been Injured, since that time the universities have been threatened with suits galore by those who allege that they were Injured by the falling of the stand. The report that the athletic board had voted to ask for the admission of Nebraska, into IheBlg NJne hqscaused perforce more or less comment upon the campus and among football en thusiasts who understand ' the situa tion. There seems to be a division of opin ion. Some say that admission Is the next thing for Nebraska, and others say, stay out. The latter offer these reasons for their conclusion: Primar ily they Insist that Nebraska would lose her Identity as an Independent school upon Inclusion In the Nine. While now 8he holds the top place as an Independent school, In the other case she would be one of a number and forced Into a position of submis sion to a majority. They further as sert that while she can hold her own as an outsider, she would run the risk of being a second rater among the larger schools. She would have to contend with older, richer and stronger Institutions. They claim, further, that Nebraska's entrance .into such close relations with these large schools would be of the same nature as one of the Big Nine playing the largest eastern teams. On the other hand, those In favor of admission point to the recognition Ne braska would receive by reason of the new position sho would hold. They say that rubbing up against stronger schools would make her stronger. That sho would attract more students ath letically Inclined is probable. They Insist that slnco Nebraska has shown herself strong sho should assoclato in company of her class. They put forth the statement also that the scheduling of games wlht larger Insti tutions is what the university needs. The comparative strength of these varying conclusions can be determined by the Individual himself. The ath letic board has acted according as It saw fit and If perchance Nebraska should be admitted to the conference the future will decide these questions. Academy Social Club. The Social Hour club met Monday afternoon at Its regular time and place of meeting and listened to a highly Instructive talk by Miss Woodsmall, director of the city Y. W. C. A. gym nasium. Excellent advice was given concerning regularity of habits, proper walking and sensible dressing. Other talks, equally as good, have been ar ranged for the future. Dr. Hiss Lectures at Omaha. Dr. Ross delivered his lecture on "Railroad Taxation" before the Omaha real estate exchange yesterday after noon. Professor Ross has given the same lecture In different western cities and Is a scientific expert upon the sub ject. The club before which he lectured yesterday Is one very prominent in business circles. Because of the na ture of the subject under discussion prominent railroad officials were In vited to be present. While absent from the city Dr. Ross' classes were given quizes. Dr. Ross will speak at the meeting of the Nebraska Federation of Re forms, which will be held November 21-22. Mr. Heath is assiting the department of physical education in recording physical examinations. Dr. Ward has Just finished an article on "Nematoda" for the revised edi tion of Wood's Reference Handbook of Medical Science. The departments of botany and geol ogy have just received forty typo graphic maps of different portions of Nebraska from the- United States sur vey at Washington. These maps cover an area of about twenty or thirty miles. There are several typographic plants now running the length of the state. Samuel C. Hawthorne, '02, Nebras ka's famous debater, Is now In Cali fornia. He reports that he saw the Berkeley-Leland Stanford football game. The teams were very evenly matched In regard to strength, but Berkeley won out on good punting. Mr. Hawthorne is of the opinion that California could give Nebraska many points In regard to rooting, but thinks that Nebraska could show them many things on real football. Made & Guaranteed by B.
