The students from the state farm will begin their shop and forge work today. It will be necessary to run the shops both forenoon and afternoon. Last evening the Latin students of Academy met at the home of Mrs. F E. Baker on Sixteenth and F streets, for the put pose of oiganiing n Latin dub. An organization wrk perfected and officers elected. Phil King, who Is Berving his sev enth year as coach at Wisconsin, will study law in Washington next year. Wisconsin is looking mound for a man to fill his place. The department of botany shipped eight pounds of cottonwood cuts to the Hawaiian islands Monday. They are to be used as wind brakes. Last Sep tember the department sent sixteen pounds of these cuts, and has been in formed that they are growing fine. On Monday Professor Bessey sent a couple of packages of twigs of the South Carolina poilar to the experi ment station at Honolulu, Hawaii. Some packages sent a month or more ago reached the islands in safety and are reported as making a nice growth. The physical department lias finally succeeded in securing one hour's credit for three put in by older athletes, or in other words the 4 o'clock lass in track athletics will have two hours each week gymnasium for practice and one hour theory or lecture. F. E. Smith, a post-graduate of the university and formerly of the United States botanical survey, is at present located In the Sandwich islands, where he is employed as superintendent of the custom house. Since graduating from the university a few years ago Mr. Smith has spent much of his time in traveling throughout Europe, Africa, and Australia. THE CO-OP.
