art and religion The couise will be
gin with a brief survey of the ait of
Kgypt and Assyria, and the charac
teristics of Greek art are contrasted
with those of oriental art on the one
hand ami of early Chrlstion ait on the
other. The study of Greek myths i
also taken up. at least so far as they
can form an essential factor in the
development of the art of Greece.
The course Is designed to make clear
the fundamental and lasting principles
of aesthetic form so marvelously
wrought out and refined by the
Greeks. It is hoped that the course
may serve to promote a just apprecia
tion of the great works of the past,
and contribute to the formation of a
sound and intelligent tnste in ait in
general.
