The courses in debate have been re
organized on the basis of a new course
in argumentathe composition solely,
Nos. 11 und 12. which form a natural
introduction to tho debate courses,
which courses will, according to a new
regulation which goes into effect this
week, oidinarily be open after 11)02-03
"only to those students who have taken
course 11, at least, or its equivalent"
The new three-hour course in argu
mentation, "introduced by a study of
scientific exposition, aims at thorough
practical training in the principles un
derlying written and oral argumenta
tion While it is therefore a founda
tion for the courses in debate, its pur
pose Is much wider to give a general
training in scientific methods of inves
tigation by drill In analysis, the nature
and use of evidence, etc-., and in argu
mentation and scientific exposition by
drill In logical rind rhetorical struc
ture." Another important change is the

A new course in "The Forms Yf
Public Addresses," which takes the
place ol the com so until last year called
"The Construction of the Oration,"
Prof Fogg has decided not to give
until next year, alternating it with one
of the courses he is now offering, prob

advanced course in composition based
on the study of masterpieces of the
didactic and the personal essay."
In the advanced course in debate,
Nos. 13 and 14, membership has been
limited to twenty, who will of course
be those students who become espe
'rlnlly interested In, or distinguished
themselves in, the debate work last
year.

versity or elsewhere should not fail
to show up on the gridiron every after
noon. Bring your own suits or obtain
them at the gymnasium. At all events,
be out ready for work. Every man will
have an equal opportunity for a place
on the team. All new men in the

ance on the football field If they have
