nesota and Prof. Lyons of the Nebras
ka station to exchange two assistants
during each summer in order to give
them a broader field of experience.
The football men will get out for the
first spring practice about May 1. The
work will consist of puting and kick
ing, with the expectation of developing
some good material along that line for
next year A prize will be offered later

During the severe wind storm of
Monday night about one hundred panes
of glass were destroyed on the green
houses. The gardener was busy all
day yesterday replacing them for fear
of a cold spell and hence exposure of
the plants. The latter were all covered
with dirt and presented a sorry appearance.
The first year domestic science girls
are serving meals to other girls in the
department and the second year girls
are serving course meals to invited
guests.

respectively. One will be UBCd for
pole vaulting and the other for the
broad jump. Previous to this It was
almost impossible for men to wear
spiked shoes on the hardened and
caked earth. The Improvement will
partly relieve the difficulties.
Don R. Jewell. '02, left for Omaha
last Monday where he wont to take
the civil service examination for the
Coast and Geodetic survey. The ex
amination is a very difficult one. re-,
quiring two days.

The Latin club meets tonight at the
home of Dr. Boasey, 1504 S street Pro
fessor Groovo E. Barber will speak to
the members on the "Life of the Ro
mans." The speakers for the three re
maining meetings will be, Dr. J. T.
Lees, Chancellor Andrews, and Dr.
Louise Pound.
The freshmen have decided to break
precedents and give a party in the near
future. President Sawyer has appointed
the following to serve on an entertain
ment committee: Fred Sweely, chair

Hibner. The date and place of holding

working on some drawings of a new
transit instrument whose parts and
castings will be done mostly at the
shops during the summer. This will
he built according to the ideas of Prof.
Sweezey and wiH he mounted on a sep
arate pier at the south of the observa
tory. Another transit instrument, but
smaller, and for the use of beginning
students will .also be located in the
near future.
