The recent introduction of a bill in
tho Iowa state legislature for tho re
moval, u,)on certain conditions, of the
state university fiom Iowa City, is
doubtless tho resu of a feeling that
not enough is being done for the uni
versity by that town. It is but further
evidence of unappreclatlvo cities which
do not realize tho value of being the
homo of educational institutions with
all their moral and pecuniary advan
tages. Tho depaiture of fifteen hun
dred students from Iowa City would
not only impair the social community
but would also bo a keen loss to the
business men of that city.
It was giatifying to see ho much
( lass spirit manifested at the basket
ball games last Saturday night, though
at the same time it may be said that
it ought not to be carried so far aa
to assert itself in a negative way.
Discourtesy to tho officials or even to
the members of the opposing team was
at no time called for.
The historical society has -received
from Franklin Ball of Palmyra, two
old grooving planes such as were in
use about a century ago. They were
used for matching flooring work, which
Is now done entlroly by machinery.
These planes are about a century old.
