BOARD FOR A DOLLAR Meals Served by Sludent Board ing Club for an Average of Five Cents Each A n p;ist, ern college student, writlnn tu,a frhjnrt i ;i westen school, suvs: The Mudents of our school "liavo sol ved the problem of unlng Ihrnnuh school ' mi economical manner ano at the sumo time livlniz healllifully and well. The Kululinn lies in the stu dent Helf-tioardlnir clubs which are becoming numerous. We found in our freshman yea. that the greatest item of expense was the board bill, and the board at that was not like mother used to give. W.- soon learned that late hours of study, cnnlinemont in the clasK room and lack ot exercise were telling upon us, and we set about to discover sumo plan of reini -ding our condition One or our num ber, a poortellow. suggested that we organize clubs and Viard ourselves. We did not look upon the proposition with favor at. first, for Innovations are always met with a storm of ob jections. Our (ilium persisted, and showed us how to live well and cheap ly. We formed ten clubs of live mem bers oaeh. One, of our number was chosen steward and treasurer. A gas oline stove, dishes, and napkins were purchase!' We weie green at house keeping a i UrM, but we learned rap idly. Mai 'i lellow bad his portion or wurk t . trform. One set the table, another ashed the dislus, the t hlid swept the crumbs from the table and Hour, and the steward got. our loud for us. Our landlady gave us 11111117 suggestions from her lone experience in housekeeping I tut the best feat ure of our plan is the simplicity and ease with which a meal can be gotten up. The hardest problem was the rood to select. At tirst we conlined our selves to the provorbial boarding house menu hut not one of us was satistled. Then wo tried so-called health toocis. Most of them required too much pre paration and time is a consideration witli us students. We tried prepared outs, rice, hominy, etc., because wo were caught by glittering ads extoll Inir their virtues. At last wo bought a box of Shredded Wheat Hiscuit and, say, we are staunclidvocates of tills food It's the cas'est food to prepare that I ever saw. All you have to do is toast It a little and spread some butter over It. A cup of chocolate, a phce of cliceso and a banana makes a tine broakfast, ana it only takes a few n loutes to preparo the entire meal. V. e have made a study of shredded wheat and And that it contains nil tne elements neiiossary topiiyjilQuj and mental upbuilding. Not any of the original wheat borry is lost. All its properties aro contained in the finished product. Every student knows that the foods of nature can not bo improved upon and contain the properties necessary to build bone, teeth, nervo and brain. We have discarded white and other breads from our table, because they aro un natural, requiring chemicals to make them light 111 id short. We don't eat meat, because meat contains so much waste and so little tissue building material. Get a ciierulcai analysis 01 beef and jou will agree with me. We have made, rapid stiicies in tills self b larding plan and nearly crery sludent in our college boards himself. The restaurant keepers are naturally sore, for their nrolits aie less now than formerly. Itut self preservation is a law, ou know. Our meals cost us less than live cents apiece, to be more specific, a shredded Wheat His cuit costs one cent, chocolate one cent, a banana one cent, milk and butter less than two cents. We are In love with our plan and intend to keep it up. There Is a marked lm provement in our health and purses. It originally cost us :). per week for hoard, while it now co-its us but little more than $i. You fellows ought to try our plan. It is simple and has many advantages oer the old b"arding house.
