tho great anxiety of the Porto Ricans
to secure an education, he mention
ed an instance f a Mr. Martinez, a
baker, in the town of llumucoa. who
walked forty miles to sec tho Com
missioner. Tho baker stated to Dr.
Brumbaugh that lie was ablo to savo
$25 a month from his Industry, and
wanted to know if that fund would
bo sufilcient for his two sons to come
to tho United States to bo educated.
Tho Commissioner having numerous
friends throughout the United States,
negotiated with soveral, and finally
tho Perklomen Seminary, at Penns
burg, agreed to tako both boys.
Thev aro now there, and tho
president as Just reported that thoy
aro doing exceedingly well, and that
the father is very prompt and faithful
in sending tho montly allowanco of
$25.
Ho relates anothor story of a boy,
ago 18, who entered the U. S. army In
Porto Rico, who after serving a full
term, was honorably discharged.

baugh ho sold tho cow, and with his
fBiislance secured free transportation
to tho United States, and a freo
course at the Moody Blblo Instltuto,
at Nortlitiold, Mass., whore hols now
studying in order to servo the higher
interests of his country.

without cost to themselves, and
only 45 of them arc supported at tho
