Tho fake report of an eastern trip

perhaps without so much of that

The electrical display which will bo
given In tho armory tonight Is tho
result of considerable work and It
will doubtless be appreciated.
It Is rather strango that so many
students persist in leaving their
coats and overcoats hanging in tho
hallways of tho diiTerent buildings
whon thero is a check room where
thoy may bo loft with security. It
will perhaps requlro tho loss of some
thing in this lino to causo tho stu
dents to roallzo tho danger of looting
wearing apparel in places where
strangers may at any tlmo go and
help themselves. It is truo that the
university lias been very free from
petty thieving of lato yot it might

Somo very interesting inoldents
occurod in tho lire of Prof. Brum
1 augh. during tho time ho spont In
Porto Rico as United .States Com
missioner of Education. I n speaking of
tho great anxiety of the Porto Ricans
to secure an education, he mention
ed an instance f a Mr. Martinez, a
baker, in the town of llumucoa. who
walked forty miles to sec tho Com
missioner. Tho baker stated to Dr.
Brumbaugh that lie was ablo to savo
$25 a month from his Industry, and
wanted to know if that fund would
bo sufilcient for his two sons to come
to tho United States to bo educated.
Tho Commissioner having numerous
friends throughout the United States,
negotiated with soveral, and finally
tho Perklomen Seminary, at Penns
burg, agreed to tako both boys.
Thev aro now there, and tho
president as Just reported that thoy
aro doing exceedingly well, and that
the father is very prompt and faithful
in sending tho montly allowanco of
$25.
Ho relates anothor story of a boy,
ago 18, who entered the U. S. army In
Porto Rico, who after serving a full
term, was honorably discharged.
Whllo In tho army, tho ooy attencicd
night fohool in San .loan, where ho
studied English and Unitod States,
history, and made up his mind that
it was his duty to become an educat
ed mm, in order to return to Porto
Rico, to teach his people to live bot
tor. This poor boy lad nothing in
tho world but a cow, which ho had
loan d oit whllo ho S3rved in tho
army. At tho advise oDr. Mruru
baugh ho sold tho cow, and with his
fBiislance secured free transportation
to tho United States, and a freo
course at the Moody Blblo Instltuto,
at Nortlitiold, Mass., whore hols now
studying in order to servo the higher
interests of his country.
Most or tho 246 students who wero
