_ il 'tfr/j : ST Conservative. MESSAGES TO MID-OCEAN. Marcoui still continues to perform the impossible and MoOluro's Maga zine to report him. The account in the February McOluro's of Marconi's experiments at St. John's , New foundland , Marcoui himself declared to bo the best popular account over written of his work in wireless tele graphy. Now , in the April issue , Henry Herbert McOluro tells the story of rhe wireless messages re ceived on board the "Philadelphia" on her uow famous voyage. Those messages not only broke the distance record established at St. John's , but also for the first time demonstrated the practical utility of the system over long distances ; for these mes sages consisted of words and sen tences , not , like the others , of a single letter , and they were actually printed on telegraph tape , not as at St. John's , barely detected on a tele phone by a straining ear. The writer of the article is a personal friend of the inventor's and the account is oftou given in Maroon is' own words. FOOLISH HABIT. There is no good reason thatwe ] ] know of why young men and boys should carry revolvers. Few people in Nebraska nowadays find them selves in danger of their lives very often. The revolver is a man-killing weapon , not an ornament nor a sport ing tool. Its proper place is the battlefield or wilderness , whore men moot other men or wild animals in mortal combat. Wnon burglars and thugs iuvade a city , there may be reason for citizens to arm them selves ; though the pistol of the householder seldom makes much of a record against the evildoers. But for young boys to carry deadly weapons is both needless and foolish. There is nothing a boy needs that he cannot get without a gun. If a lad's honor * I n ) . " ' was so daniacod , by another's calling -.4' him an inktum or something of that sortthat he thought ho needed blood , ho would probably bo sorry in after years if he got it. Bloodshed , oven in defense of one's honor , means jail , and courtrooms , and lawyers and time aud money consumed uuprofit- ably. Still many young men go abroad , oven to dances and places of amusement , with pistols strapped up on their persons. Wo don't under stand their idea exactly , but we think this is another good thing for parents to look into. TO CURE A COLD IN ONE DAY. Take Laxative Brome Quinine Tablets.
