TREES IN THE BIBLE.
"And God said , Behold , I have given
you every herb bearing seed , which is
upon the face of all the earth , and every
tree , in the which is the fruit of a free
yielding seed ; to you it shall be for
meat. " Gen. 1st , 29th.
"And out of the ground made the
Lord God to grow every tree that is
pleasant to the sight , and good for food ;
the tree of life also in the midst of the
garden , and the tree of knowledge of
good and evil. " Gen. 2-9.
Not to Eat.
"And the Lord God commanded the
man , saying , Of every tree of the garden
thoumayest freely eat ; but of the tree
of the knowledge of good and evil , thou
shalt not eat of it ; for in the day that
thou eatest thereof , thou shalt surely
die. " Gen. 2d , 16-17.
"But of the fruit of the tree which is
in the midst of the garden , God hath
said , Ye shall not eat of it , neither shall
ye touch it , lest ye die. " Gen. 8-3.
Female Influence.
"And when the woman saw that the
tree was good for food , and that it was
pleasant to the eyes , and a tree to be
desired to make one wise , she took of
the fruit thereof , and did eat ; and gave
also unto her husband with her , and he
did eat.
First Sewing Society.
"And the eyes of them both were
opened , and they knew that they were
naked ; and they sewed fig leaves
together , and made themselves aprons.
"And they heard the voice of the Lord
God walking in the garden in the cool of
the day ; and Adam and his wife hid
themselves from the presence of the Lord
God amongst the trees of the garden.
"And he said , Who told thee that
thou wast naked ? Hast thou eaten of
the tree , whereof I commanded thee
that thou shouldest not eat ? " Gen. 8 :
6-7-8-11.

Adam Blames Eve.
"And the man said , The woman whom
thou gavest to be with mo , she gave me
of the tree , and I did eat.
The Result.
"And unto Adam ho said , Because
thou hast hearkened unto the voice of
thy wife , and hast eaten of the tree of
which I commanded thee , saying , Thou
shalt not eat of it ; cursed is the ground
for thy sake ; in sorrow shalt thou eat of
it all the days of thy lifo.
"And the Lord God said , Behold the
man is become as one of us , to know
good and evil. And now , lest he put
forth his hand , and take also of the tree
of lifo , and eat and live forever.
"So ho drove out the man ; and he
placed at the east of the garden of Eden ,
Oherubims , and a flaming sword which
turned every way , to keep the way of
the tree of life. " Gen. 8 : 12-17-22-24.
"Let a little water , I pray you , be
fetched , and wash your feet , and rest
yourselves under the tree.
"And he took butter and milk , and
the calf which ho had dressed , and set it
before them ; and he stood by them
under the tree , and they did eat. " Gen.
18 : 4-8.
Early Tree Planter.
"And Abraham planted a grove in
Beer-sheba , and called there on the name
of the Lord , the everlasting God. ' ' Gen.
21 : 88.
Sugar Tree
"And he cried unto the Lord ; and the
Lord showed him a tree , which when he
had cast into the waters , the waters
were made sweet ; there he made for
them a statute and an ordinance , and
there he proved them. " Exodus xv : 25.
"And when ye shall come into the
land , and shall have planted all manner
of trees for food , then ye shall count the
fruit thereof as uucircumcised ; three
years shall be as uucircumoised unto
you ; it shall not be eaten of. ' ' Leviticus
xix : 28.
Palm Sunday.
"And ye shall take you on the first
day the boughs of goodly trees , branches
of palm trees , and the boughs of thick
trees , and willows of the brook ; and ye
shall rejoice before the Lord your God
seven days. " Leviticus xxiii : 40.
No Drouths.
"Then I will give you rain in due
season , and the land shall yield her
increase , and the trees of the field shall
yield their fruit. " Leviticus xxvi : 4.
"And all the tithe of the land , whether
of the seed of the land or of the fruit of
the tree , is the Lord's ; it is holy unto
the Lord. " Leviticus xxvii : 80.
"As the valleys are they spread forth ,
as gardens by the river's side , as the
trees of ligu-aloes , which the Lord hath
planted , and as cedar trees beside the
waters. " Numbers xxiv : 6.
Forestry.
"As when a man goeth into the wood
with his neighbor to hew wood , and his
hand fetoheth a stroke with the axe to
cut down the tree , and the head slippeth
from the helve , and lighteth upon his
neighbor , that ho die ; ho shall flee unto
one of those cities and live. " Deuteron
omy xix : 5.
Spare Trees in War.
"When thou shalt besiege a city a
long time , in making war against it to
take it , thou shalt not destroy the trees
thereof by forcing an axe against them
for thou mayest eat of them , and thou
shalt not out them down ( for the tree of
