" 10 to 1 OK BUST. "
At last it has come to be clear that
the prince Ahmed of the democratic
party would cast his charm of Pari-
banou eloquence over the wits of his
followers , not unlike did the real prince
his fairy tent over the heads of his
whole army , both which charm and
tent , alike , when folded up for thought
ful view , take on so small a compass as
to become withal a lady's toy.
'And further , too , it seems clear , the
sweet silver singer , singing sixteen soft
songs to one hard tune , would offer to
Americans , as a panacea for all the ills
which the whole people of this nation
betimes come heir to , his paramount
Samarcand apple of 16 to 1 , which they
refused to accept of , only a short time
since , knowing it was just such fruit by
which man was first tempted.
Nay , sir prince , your labors in this be
half , like those of the mountain , have
brought forth only a mole which time
has hitched to the catching phrase , so jjl
that he who runs may now read it thus : j ]
" 16 to 1 or bust. "
So , if that is to be the paramount
issue , stamp it on your banners as it
now appears with an Anglo Saxon will ,
and boldly set out for the goal of a
laudable ambition ; but after the die is
cast m November next , and you come
draggling back whence you set out , be
generous enough , like has been done be
fore , to say to your fellow townsmen
"Busted , by gosh 1
But it's better it 'busted' me ,
Than all the rest should 'busted' be. "
