George Galley calls attention to a
mistake made in the Journal last
week. His trip up the Platte valley
was made in 1851 instead of 1855 as
stated in the Journal. Mr. Galley
the Journal is sorry to state has had
to corout a physician this week.
Will B. Dale has been suffering for
about a week from a bronchial trouble
which finally forced him to go to the
hospital last Saturday for treatment.
He very soon rebelled however, and
returned to his rooms in the Olother
hotel contrary to his phssioian's or
der. It was feared that his illness
might prove to be serious on account
of bis age buthis remarkable constitu
tion seems again to have rescued him
from a very tight place. Mr. Dale
is one of th 1 land marks in the de
velopment of Columbus.
Does Journal advertising pay? Ask
the man who offered a (arm for sale in
Hie Journal and a few days later re
ceived a letter of inquiry from Chicago
enclosing the ad clipped from the Jour
nal. Or ask the young man who ad
vertised for a lost brooch,. A Journal
reader saw the party p.tck up the brooch
on the street. As soon as he saw the ad
in the Journal he associated the two
and the brooch is now in the hands' of
the owner. Try one yourself if you are
still not convinced that the Journal
is the best advertising medium in Platte
county. Why shouldn't it be. with by
far the largest circulation of any paper
in the county?
It is now clearly up to the people
of Columbus whether they will have
a first class ball team or whether
thev will have ncne. When it was
figured out in the Journal office at
tho last meeting of the committee
that it would require at least 600 a
month to support a salaried team and
the pledges on the tubscripoa paper
only amounted to $250,, the most of
the boys were ready to throw up their
hands and say it couldn't be done,
However the tsaosphere has cleared
a little. Gorhett and Welch seeing
that so many of the Business men
were really anxious to have a team
and for that reason believing thai they
could oouni on liberal gate receipts,
have decided to take a part of she
retponsbilitv upon themselves and
stay provided the subscriptions can be
raised to $400 a month. The boys be
lieve this made can be reached when
the business men are assured that they
will -have a winning team, play clean
ball and have from one to three-week-day
games a N week to which
excursions will be run, bringing
crowds of people to the city. Will the
business men and others raise the

delegate convention Monday night
and named the following city ticket:

G. W. Phillipps made the following
platform for himself: "The demo
crats of Columbus in convention as
sembled for the purpose of defining
the position of the party upon some
of the laraea whioh have been injected
into this campaign unqualifiedly de
clare that we favor the enforcement
of all laws and ordinances that will
insure to the peace dignity and wel
fare of the city and to that end we
pladge the enforcement of the Slocum
liquor law as regards Sunday closing.
We insist that the sale of intoxicat
ing liquors by licensed druggists "hall
be restricted to the purposes named
in their permits.
The social evil problem is one which
the minds of the best men of all poli
tical views have been unable to solve
to the satisfaction of alL The ques
tion of suppressing these evil houseo
and scattering their inmates, or the
question of placing the evil under
striot polioe oontrol, are problems
which baffle the heads of all munici
