Mrs. Rath burn? is visiting with Omaha friends until .her husband's return. Last Fiiday Judge Ratterman placed Herman Wolfe under a six months bond of 300 to keep the peace. Wolfe was arrested on a complaint from his wife who charged him with threaten ing her ilfe. The parties have lived in South Columbus and Wolfe has been a bar tender a part of the time. Rev. William Cash married Mr. Frederick Phinney of Wallace, Idaho, and Miss Minnie Key of Clatks last week at the home of the brides father, Thomas Key. The bride is known in Columbus where her brother George Key lived until one year ago. The groom is engaged in mine engineering in Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Sullivan and Dr. and Mrs. O. H. Willard last Thursday received a beautiful patch qult as a pift from the ladies of the Degree of Honor of St. Edward. Mrs. Willard formerlv was financier of the St. Ed ward lodge and one of its most active members. The ouilt was sent as a token of appreciation of her work and of the nigh regard in which she is held by her St. Edward friends. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kelley arrived in this city from the west last Friday night. Mrs. Kelley will remain till after the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kramer and Mr. Kelley will be here Christmas. Slater returned home last Friday from his post-graduate studies at the Kanass Citv Veterinary School and his patrons are keeping him besv during hi6 short vacation. McOlintock was in this city last Tuhrsday looking alter his drug business and other interests in this part of Nebraska. He will be here again this week. He says that Dr. Hansen and other Columbus people at Searchlight, Nevada are centering all their energies on the new railroad which tkev are building to that town. John Wurdeman and D. A. Becher returned this week from a meeting of the Battle Creek Mutual Fire Insur ance company at Battle Creek, Neb. , of which company Mr. Becher is a director and Mr. Wurdeman a stock holder. Miss Anna Matson left last Satur day for her home in South Omaha after an extended visit in this city, Monroe and St. Edward. While here she was a guest of her sister Mrs. G. M. Hall. "J. E. Fuimer was so happy over his poultry prizes that he forgot all about the distinguished guest whom he was entertaining and 6taited home from the theatre without liim." The Los Angeles limited, the new through train from Chicago to Los Angeles passed though Colnmbns on its first trip last Monday. R. W. Saley, the official photographer for the company took a picture of the train during its stop here and many citizens were present to see one of the prettiest trains tn the world. There will be special Christmas ser vicej at the Congregational church next Sunday. Rev- Munro's theme for the morning service will be "The Meaning of the First Christmas." His evening subject is "A Night in the Desert." On Christmas night there will be a Christmas tree, the deoroations all coming from the south-land, and a program will be given by the children. Eosina Ktuuaer. Rcsina Kummer. widow of Sam Kummer who died about thirty-one years ago, died at the home of his son Will Kummer at Gruetli on December 1), of a complication of asthma and dropsy. The deceased was bora in Switzer land in 1821 and came to Grnetli thirty-five years ago with her husband. She leaves two sons, Will and Ru doloh, and one daughter, Mrs. Rosa Schneider of this citv. The funeral was held on December 11th, Rev. Braun officiating. Mrs. Eliza Langenegger. Mrs. Eliza Langenegger died at her home in the Lindell hotel on Eleven th street of kidney trouble, on De cember 19 at C, p. m. Mrs. langenegger was born in Switzerland on August 27. 1805 com ing to America and to Colnmbns twenty-two years ago. She was mar ried eight years ago and for the past three years with her nnsband has con ducted the Lindell hotel. She leaves a husband and six children. The funeral will be held at the resi ence at 10 a m., and at the German Reform church at 10:1 . a. m., next Sunday, Rev Neumarker officiating. JchnBadnar. John Bednar, aged thirty five years died at St. Mary's hospital of con sumption this morning at 9 o'clock. He leaves a wife and three children iu Poland. He had worked on the section five months in Columbus. Jacob S. Hart. Jacob S. Hart of Monroe, aged fif teen years died at his home in Mon roe last Sunday. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Congregation al church.
