The grand aggregate of destruction fairly

we have been for more than a generation

serried ranka. marked by the white head

' William Burke passed away Tues
day afternoon of last week at" his home,
after. a long .and serious illness. Mr.'
B'arkewaa born' November 11, 1859, in
Mazomainia, Wisconsin. He came to
Omaha-in .1879, and had been in' the
employ of the CJnionTacific twenty-two
yeara the' last, nineteen of. which he was
an eagiheer. He has lived in Columbus
twelve years, during which he had been
the; engineer on the .Albion. .He was
taken ill: in-September, 1900, with pro
gressive paralysis, and since that time
had beea unable to resume his railroad
work. Mr. -Burke was a general favorite
ainong 'his associates; .be' never" hadan
enemy,- and had never "been censured' in
-any way by his employers. He was
always exceptionally careful in all things
entrueted -to him. Mr. Burke was mar
ried' October 13 1885, in Omaha, to Miss
Elizabeth -Farrell of West Chester, Pa
whom be-leaves together with three
children, two girls and one boy, to mourn
the lota of a loving" husband and father.
'Mr.-Barke-leaves two sisters and three
brothers. Funeral services were held
Thursday morning, at 10 o'clock in the
Catholic church, alter which the body
was interred-In the Catholic cemetery.
Henry 'Burke and -Mrs. Offerman of
Omaha, brother and sister of Mr. Burke,
and'Mr.and-Mrs.ljeary'of Milwaukee,
(Mrs. Leary is sister of Mrs. Burke), all
attended, the funeral. Mr. Burke .was a
member of Columbia Lodge No. 268,
Al 0. 17. Wr, those members who could
he aotified in time attending the funeral.

a certain paragraph in a late issue of the
Telegram beginning "We must not'blame
".Ch'airmaa -Hoare for hie opposition -to
democratic officials in Platte county, and
especially, those-officials' who serve exe
cutioBS,? -etc.. -The complaint alleges

meant thereby to accuse-the plaintiff, of
shirking hig'duty aad the payment of
his taxes as a reputable citizen, and that J
be would only pay his taxes when com
pelled 'to do so -by process of law' and
thereby .bring plaintiff into 'public .dis
grace, infamy and' disrepute, and injure
his credit and' standing as a citizen of
Platte county. ". That' said publication
was faJeeymaliciona and defamatory, and
that by reason of said false, malicious
aad defamatory pablioation, he has bees
injared ia bis reputation in the sum of
$5,000. A like suit has been brought
against the Columbus. Biene for publishing-

him pay-back personal taxes two years'

for time, which'Byrnes granted to him
"till it'firially appeared that he made ao
.effort to pay. 'Bat on the 10th of April,

had also been sued, but vi the sum of
