Wm. Comptoo is the largest wool grower in this neighborhood he having the greatest number of sheep. Road overseer Griffin bas beea doing some good work oa the high way, and woold have done more bat navigation with a scraper closed on the 5th inst. Columbus Township Board will meet at Reed's school house next Saturday at ten o'clock a. m., when they will settle with the road over seers and the town supervisor. It is reported, that a span of horses with the glanders is being kept two miles north and one mile east of the city; if the report is true the state veterinary surgeon ought to be notified. A term of five months school com menced in our school-boase oa the first Monday in November, with Mr. Joseph Manahan installed as teacher, who, we believe, is doing good work, and giving general satisfactioa. Nick. Johnson, a brother of Tom. Johnson, expects to start back borne in a few day to Princeton, III. He has a farm here that be has worked well and faithfully the past summer; he will return in the spring with renewed vigor. Charlie Morrissey, who has been husking corn by the bushel in this vicinity, and making hi home with Mr. Bell, in Colfax county, started last Friday for Galesbarg, III. ; after inquiring the fare at both stations, he went over the TJ. P., saving some thing less than a dollar. Corn is not all gathered yet; the recent wind storm blew about one half the ears off the stalks. The ears lying en the ground are covered with snow, which retard corn husking, ior me present at least, rue corn shocks and hay stacks are badly blown down. Mr. J. H. Reed had a steer barn built to holaV 60 steers: it was just completed aad was being painted when the wind blew it down aad scattered it over the ground. Michael Sheedy also had a small building under process of construction, when the matter wind thought he was violating one of the law of nature and swept it from the face of the earth. R. Mia Rosa Doffey, one of Platte eeeatj' accomplished teachers, took charge of the school ia district sixty three last week. The wind of last Friday did con siderable damage the way of tara iag over bay stacks, aaroefiag corn cribs, and demolishing cattle sheds.
