It is a large book of over 600 pages.thirty of which are occupied with the ta ble of contents, which are printed in small type, three columns to the page, showing something of the comprehensive nature of the work. The book is of special value to far mer?, ai will be seen from the fol- lowing summary of conteuts: 140 page3 are devoted to horses, 50 to cattle, 30 to sheep, 10 to swine, 20 to poultry, 30 to the dairy, 20 to fruit growing, 10 to bees, etc., aud 30 pnges are given to legal forms and maxims. We have named only a small portion of the subjects5!! arc treated upon iu the book. It is of great value aud should have a large side Indiana Farmer. Monroe. Editor Jouunal: Since Mon day, prairie fires have been raging fearfully in the heavy grass in this locality, and the extreme dryness and heavy winds render fire guards of little avail. Yesterday between twelvo aud one o'clock a heavy fire came sweeping in from the south, and set Barclay Jones's buildings on fire aud but little was saved except the live stock. About six mouths ago he built a large and convenient frame barn and granary, which was all swept away in a few minutes, together with over two hundred bushels of wheat, 130 of rye and 100 of oats, besides considerable machin ery and tools. Tho house occupied by W. W. Manuington was also burned, most of the furniture being saved except iu Ihe cellar. Mr. Jones's loss is fully $1,200. W. W. Mannington's $150; Martin Vooh rces, boarding at Mr. Jones's, lost a chest of tools and other propcity to the amount of $100. Through the extra efforts of Mr. Bump, the corn crib with 150 bushsls of corn was saved. It was barely possible to save the livestock, consisting of two spans of mules aud eight horses aud colls. But for the presence of mind and timely directions of Mr. Jones him self none of the live stock could have been saved. Eight years ago Mr. Jones was burned out at Genoa, losing nearly two thousand five hundred dollars, with no insurance. I unde.-dand that the property de stroyed yesterday was partly cover ed by insurance, which is very fortunate for Mr. Jones at this time. x. Makcii 2Sth 1S79. trn t.t?ctw a t nrn-PTn-p Mai-cli :Wtli.
