The Madison Chronicle has tho best
election story It says In Giove
precinct a curious ballot was cast which
showed tho extreme intelligence of the
voter It was a blank 1 allot without
any printing of any kind on it but u
bore the signatures of the judges The
voter looked it over and made a enihS
under the judges names
It is reported tlmt tho station agent at

of Hitall pox and tho depot has been
quarantined Meanwhile tho railroad
company has improvised a depot from a
box car and tho business is being con
ducted without tho aid of either tho
siiuion ageui or uepot i nere aro a
number of cases of small pox in tho
state but the diseaso is either not of a
malignant form or medical science has
so thoroughly demonstrated its ability
to cope with it that no alarm is felt by
tho citizens Fifteen or twenty years
ago a few cases of small pox would have
almost created n panic
Some hoodlum removed one of the
streot signs at the corner of Main and
First streets sometime during last night
The sign had just been placed yesterday
It was put at a height of 12 feet and tho
law breaker who removed it must have
been at considerable inconvenience to
perform what ho probably considered a
very cute trick If apprehended tho
joke will probably not bo of such a
laughable character as it was a niisdo
nieanor and punishable as such The
city council will probably take some
spoeiul action at its next meeting and
may pass an ordinance with tho object
of punishing the performance of such
tricks severely Tho action though not
creating any large damage provoked
considerable indignation on the part of
all enterprising citizeus who learned of
it and they would have been highly
pleased had the perpetrator been caught
and given the limit of the law
