Why Glasses are Worn
vfS 5P
For a long time glasses were used
oniy to assist in reading or near work
but with increased knowledge of
the eye we are able to adjust
glasses to improve the sight thereby
curing chronic headaches neuralgia
and many nervous afflictions
caused by eyestrain
The thousands who wear property
adjusted glasses are the living
testimonies to the truth of it

Bandmaster Iuuos is said to havo one
of the most uuiquo collections of sacred
music in existence Not a foiv of tho
works represented come down from the
second and third centuries Ono origi
nal manuscript indeed going back so far
as can bo judged twenty fivo hundred
years beforo tho birth of Christ This
last composition is engraved upon what
is supposed to havo been a tablet ii an
Egyptian temple excavated some years
ago by tho well known Egyptologist
Kloermnun and is so far as can bo do
ciphered a chant of praise to tho god
Ra Tho library also contains several
very valuable specimens of tho oarly
Gregorian chant
Many of the primitive Christian an
thems aud Jewish hymns aro repre
sented in this magnificent collection
Mr lunes has beon many years collect
ing these works but it is only during
tho last few years that tho enormous
earnings from his band have enabled
him to give full play to his love for this
class of musical literature Innos has
even transcribed somo of thoso unique
compositions for the modern band and
tho effect is said to be of supremo inter
est not alone to tho cultivated literateur
but also to tho ordinary listener
Mr Lewis N Megargoe the well
known editorial writer of the Philadel
phia Times recently said of one of the
sacred concerts given by lunes and his
baud I never heard a baud of fifty
pieces in church accompanying the
ohoir I never sat among a congrega
tion when the organ played in thunder
ous tones deep voices blending with it
and when tho lighter tones of tho child
ren accompanied by Celestial harps
arose harmoniously above all I especi
ally cant remembor having been in
churchjwlien interspersed with songs of
praise and sublimo tumult of tho organ
fell the measured sounds of great church
bells and next their chimes as an obli
gato but I did hear all this at lunes
sacred concert and strange fancy I
thought I was in church
Innes promises to put at least one of
these anolent compositions on his pro
gram during his engagement here on
Thanksgiving night November 29th at
the Auditorium
Besides this he will introduce Mme
Noldi Miss Frances Boydon Zorni
Xanten Vernon Alberti and other well
known operatio vocalists in scenes from
Faust Trovatore and other grand
operas in addition to the fifty five regu
lar members of his band

A roiKrtor for Tmc Nrw stepped
into the photogrnph studio of 1
Michael the other day to see what he
could and was surprised ami delighted
at discovering much not apparent to
tho casual observer lie learned In
the first place that it is an establishment
of far more Impoitnueo than would he
supposed and the large sum of money
that must have been invested was a
revelation
Mr Michael is thoroughly Imbued
with Ills art and has made many ami
substantial improvements to the studio
since he came into possession all of
which add mulct ially to the quality and
variety of work lie turns out
Mr Michael pridos himself piitlcularly
upon his lighting elVects t lie retouching
quality and variety of photographs and
the finish
His light has been so arranged that he
can make it almost entirely dark
eutiroly light or admit whatever light is
necessary This is done with a systom
ofcurtains and screens niohtjcomploto
and by them he can bring the figure of
tho photograph out into such relief that
it seems entirely soparated from the
background It also admits of a total
elimination of shadow except such that
is essential to accurately describe the
fcaturos tho pose and tho drapory
Miss Anna Killen does his retouching
aud sho is certainly an adept competent
to handle tho most delicate woik
iniaf iuablo Her employer takes partic
ular pride in Miss Killens work and is
willing to place her in competition with
any rotouehor in Nebraska us to quality
and stylo of work Tho samples shown
were certsinly very fine
Tho finish is clear brilliant ami per
fect and adds materially to the appear
uneo of tho work done
Mr Michael is propated to meet any
demand in style aud size of mounts
lie has a large stock of all the latent
styles and novelties The writers
particular attention wit attracted by a
new mount known us the Rembrandt
the nowest thing out and sure to prove
popular While Mr Michael is particu
lar to eliminate shade from the photo
graph proper ho Has introduced it into
this mount with a most pleasing effect
The card is hand shaded Tho shade
begins as a light gray at ono corner and
the tone is graduated until it is almost
black at tho opposito corner It must
bo soon to bo appreciated When fin
ished it is a fit ornumeut to the most
sumptuous home
Mr Michael is an adopt at grouping
and has somo choice samples of work in
this lino
In interior and exterior view work ho
has done a great deal and is certainly
most expert His pictures are all sizes
from stamp sizo to 1 1 by 1 1 In buttons
and medallions he has a choico selec
tion his spocialty being tho lato and
nobby oval medallion some of which are
hand tinted with natural colors
In picture frames ho has over 00 dif
ferent kinds and in mouldings 75 lato
varieties His stock of mattings is
largo and cotnploto with a choico from
15 kinds Hois therefore prepared to
do anything in frame work
Mr Michael is prepared and glad to
handle tho work of the amutour trado
doing it in a thoroughly artistic manner
He already has considerable to do in
this lino and has given good satisfaction
IIo does all kinds of enlarging in
crayon water color sepia oiletto
bromide oil and pastel and also handles
decorative picturos in pastel bromide
and oil work Artists materials aro
also kept ou sale by Mr Michael
In fact anyone needing anything in
tho photograph or artist lino will do
well to call on Mr Michael before plac
ing their order His studio is on Nor
