Nello Gerockes prizo and tho maimer in
which it was won but has uot yet ob
tained them This much can bo said
however that Miss Gerockes sweet
voice recently won for her a gold medal
iu a contest at tho Chicago Musical col
lege in which 70 or 80 pupils took part
Tho first prize was a diamond medal
and Miss Gerecko securod second place
and was a close competitor for first
Her many Norfolk friends aro pleased to
learn that her vocal powers so highly
appreciated at home entitle her to such
distinction iu Chicago where there
must be so many who can sing beauti
fully Norfolk lovers of music antici
pate a rare treat in hearing Miss
Gerecke sing when she returns homo
Through tho efforts of tho officers of
the Royal Union Mutual Life Insurance
company of Des Moines Iowa who
have been here for several days past
matters pertaining to the Norfolk Audi
torium havo been adjusted with tho ex
ception of one or two claims and the
building has been taken out of the hands
of the trustees and is now iu possession
of the owners Geo H Spear who has
so successfully conducted its affairs for
the trustees continues as residout man
ager The people of Norfolk are pleased
that tho building troubles of the Audi
torium are about over and hope the pat
ronage accorded the building in the fu
ture will be as satisfactory to the owners
as its accommodations are satisfactory to
the people who appreciate the fact that
the Auditorium is worthy of tho town
and affords grand opportunity for enter
tainments and meetings of all kinds
