of the cupola at the foundry caught lire
las eveiiiiig between 7 and s oclock
and from there coiiimuniculed with tho
roof through which it burned several
holrs Tho tiro was dsscovered by Geo
Stapeuhorst who notified Foreman
Crook of the foundry and an alarm was
turned in The deputnient responded
very promptly and meantime Miosis
Cronk and Snpenhnrst with the assist
ance of others kept the blaze under
control until he department arrived
and it was then quickly subdued with a
few dashes of water The gable end of
the main bnildidg was somewhat dam
aged nud tho roof over the cupola shed
was quite badly binned Mr Cronk
set his men to work the first thing this
morning lo repair tho damage and fig
ures that this will be dono at a cost of
about vl 0 for lumber and for labor
which will show that the loss was
slight The partition has caught llro n
number of times before and bus bpon
put out with a few piils of water Mr
Cronk thinks an alarm would havo been
unecessary this time had lus force not
all been to supper Tho troublesome
partition will now bo replaced with
sheet iron and another such liluzo
averted

J Colo died at tho rosideuco of her
daughter in this city at o oclock last
evening in the 82nd year of her ago
Sho had been enjoying her usual health
until about iin hour boforo her death
when sho informed lier daughter that
sho thought she would not livo long

often that this would havo occasioned
no surprise but for the fact that sho
soomed very much in cai nest and used
a diiVerent tone of voico than usual
Sho was conducted to her bed where
sho rapidly grdw weaker and quiotly
went to sleep clasping hor daughters

husband survives her and besides tho
