sec tion presided over by Mr Sherman was devoted to tho theory aud practice of primary methods A paper advocating tho word and sen tence method of teaching reading writ ten by Mrs J W Nation of Genoa was read in her absence by President Wil liams Miss Gracia Kidder upon request ox plained tho principles of the Pollard syuthetio method A paper on combined methods wns then read by Miss Eva E Mixer of Porco Miss Mixers paper showed much breadth of thought as well as abounding in good practical ideas A general discussion followed which was entered into with much warmth and enthusiasm by many teachers pres ent After a short intermission the sub ject of primary methods in arithmetic was taken up A paper was read by C F Carey of Platto Center which put forth in a clear conciso manner tho
