NOW HE DENIES HE SAID IT His Declaration That Judge Parker is Too Much Like Roosevelt Has Caused a Rough House in the New York Headquarters Bryan Backs. One sentence In Bryan's Norfolk speech has already become famous , and may have a deal to do with the history of the democratic party. FindIng - Ing himself In hot water , Mr. Bryan has denied that he ever said It. "On a number of questions , Mr. Par ker Is too much like Roosevelt to suit us. " That Is the sentence which has stirred up the trouble. All persona who heard that speech , remember dis tinctly the words of Mr. Bryan. When ho said It there was a gasp for a min ute and then a thundering applause. They were cheering him for standing by his former declarations against Par ker. ker.Tho The speech was reported to the world through the Associated Press. Now York papers next morning used it on the front page under big head lines. Chairman Tnggart and others at the democratic headquarters shook their heads. "Wo trust ho may have been misquoted , " they said. Others spoke out. "If that's the way ho feels he's no man to send to Indiana , " they argued. One prominent democrat said "there's no excuse for such a remark. " Mr. Bryan was criticised severely for that remark. And ho figured that the easiest way out of It would bo to deny It. The News received a letter yesterday stating Mr. Bryan's denial. Having made a denial to the Associat ed Press , that organization has asked of Its Norfolk correspondent , "Did you hear the remark ? " And ho did hear It , to bo sure , Just as did everybody else In the audience. The Nowa roaches the people. 1C you want to talk to the people , thlk through The News.
