A number of Indians were in Norfolk this morning onroute from the Santee reservation , where they have boon vis iting , to their homo in Oklahoma. They live on the Canadian river , in woodei laud. They tried togof'whisk , whisk , ' but failed. Word from Boise gives information that the remains of Kathrine and Weills Donel , grandchildren of Rev. J. 0 S. Weills of this city were started for Chicago this morning , by way of Kan sas City , because the laws of Iowa pro hibit shipment of persons who have died f.oai diphtheria , through the state. L. J. Speck , the newly appointed custodian of the state property ot the insane hospital grounds , will assume the duties of his olllce one week from today. His term really begins August 1 but Mr. Thomas , who leaves , is duo in California on the first and the change is made by mutual agreement. Mr. Thom as will go to the coast where ho has Hoveral heavy investments in hand. L. T. Porter , an Omaha newspaper man , passed through the city last night onroute to the Pine Kidgo agency. Mr. Porter will drive twenty-five miles to day , making a round trip of nearly f > 00 miles , and all to get two stories. Chief Red Cloud , the famous Indian who has been known the country over for years , is dying and Mr. Porter goes to got stories f romhim The work is done for eastern papers. The lecture-recital at the First Con gregational church this evening by Ohas. E Watt of 110 Chicago Piano college will be a rare entertainment for the trilling admission fea of 16 cents. DELAYED BY PAVING QUESTION. About a Dozen. Prominent Citizens are Ready to Invest In the Now Street Railway Will Ask Business Men's Support. "Now that the paving proposition is practically settled , the now electric struct car line between Norfolk and South Norfolk will begin to move , " said one of the chief promoters of the project , when asked in regard to it th'a morning. "Within n very few days a meeting of the parties interested in the line will bo hold and doiluito stops taken toward the start. " There are nbout a dozen business men iu Norfolk already interested in the the venture. Among them are some of the most prominent people in the city. They fay that the line is a sure go and that the business portion of the city will bo connected with South Norfolk , whore live some of the best citizens of the community and where are many of the finest homes in Norfolk , within a comparatively short time. Because of the unsettled condition of the paving proposition , which would have nmtoriayy affected the car line , the project has been allowed to wait during the past few weeks. In the wind this morning ten sections of roof on the new grand stand nt the flreiuen's racing park , were blown off. They will be replaced by tomorrow noon. Gospel Meeting.
