"whale" by those who have had the
privilege of seeing it.
In company with Harry Lodor , Mr.
Leonard wont to ono of the lakes near
ISwlng yoatorday and returned this
morning with the monster flflh in his
posBOHsion , as proud of the achievement
HH any true sportsman dared bo. For
tackle ho had a small jointed bamboo
polo and silk line , neither of which
looks strong enough to land a one-
pounder and the halt used was the ordi
nary trolling spoon. The pickerel made
the strike and carried the spoon across
tlio pond at a rapid rate , but wan played
on tlio reel uutll exhausted when the
big follow waa easily landed. The big
fish is ill inches in length and weighs
exactly nine pounds and fourteen
ounces.
While Mr. Leonard was confident in
the belief that ho landed a pickerel and
those who saw it were impressed with
the name belief no loss an authority
than Dr. J. II , Maokay comes forward
with the asaortiou that the monster is a
inuskollungo and gives the point of dlf-
foronco between the two animals , one
of which is that the jaw of the inuskol
lunge is triangular while that of the
pickerel is nicely rounded. Muslcol
lunge or pickerel , Mr. Leonard is satis-
lied that ho caught a gcod ouo and his
frinnds are unanimously agreed on that
point.

At o'clock last evening , in St. Paul's
Lutheran church , Julius Haase and
Mips Martha Hollermau were married ,
Rev. William Hooltzel performing the
ceremony. The young couple left this
morning for a trip to Marshdold , Wis. ,
and will bo at homo in South Eighth

Boating Party.
A delightful boating party was given
last night by Mrs. 0. W. Intkoop for her
daughter , Miss Mabel luskeop , as a
birthday surprise. A largo number of
ouug pcoplo enjoyed the fun and an
xcoptioually pleasant evening was
made of it. Guests were conveyed to
ho First street bridge on the Northfork
n a carry-all , and at S o'clock began the
rip up stream. The big round moon
came out clear and bright and gave
deal conditions for the boatfolk. Man
dolins and guitars were used with good
effect on the way. A few miles up the
: mrty lauded and spout an hour about a
camp flro. Returning , the guests wore
served with delicious refreshments in a
down town restaurant , after which the
lunch room of the cafe was cleared aud
an extemporaneous hop indulged in , as a
fitting finale to the evening's pleasure.

Postoffico Gets up Against Pretty
Hard Propositions.
"You would bo surprised , " said the
mnn in the postofllco , "at the number of
letters wo got without any address upon
thorn , at all. Scorns of envelopes come
into the ollico without the sign of a
scratch on the outside , and hundreds
moro without a return cord. Not loner
ago a blank envelope was dropped into
the dog house the dot ; house is the box
at the front of the oillco where letters
are dropped with a letter inside. By
holding it up to the light , wo could
make out there was a money order
drawn to a man in an Iowa town , so the
thing was scut and reached its destina
tion in good Bhapo.
"Another peculiar letter waa sent to
Sioux City , with a draft for $250 in it.
The addressee could not bo found. The
letter had no return card , was sent back
to this ofllco , then to the dead letter
department , returned to us with in
structions to give it to the writer. By
that time the writer , who happened to
bo an Italian podlor , had loft the city so
his draft went into Washington again ,
and the $250 with it. "

Six carloads of limestone stand on the
tracks , ready tor the government build
ing. Just now Superintendent Wil
liams is having trouble to got ordinary
brick , and this delay is making things
merely move and that's about all , at
the building. Mr. Williams was in
Pierce yesterday and placed an order
with a brick maker of that town. He
lopes to have the scarcity overcome
within a few days , when the building
will begin to get along fast once more.
