London , Jan. 14. The Tangier cor-
ro pondcnt of the Leader reports seri
ous fighting outside of Fez. Ho says
th sultan has been defeated and that
ho escaped to the westward. War
Minister Mlnebbl , one of the sultan's
strongest pillars , was killed. All the
consuls , except the British representa
* ( tive , have left Fez. Fighting among
. the trlhes Is proceeding near enough
to Tangier for the shooting to he heard
In the city. The population of Tan
gier Is alarmed and Is asking for the
protection of warships. A local pasha

ha found it impossible to proceed and
hai returned to Tangier.
Madrid , Jan. 14. Fighting Is pro
ceeding between the troops of the sultan -
tan of Morocco and the forces of the
pretender to the throne , according tea

coming : the Imperial troops.
The correspondent adds that the in
habitants of Fez have arisen against
the sultan and that anxiety reigns at

resentative at Tangier has been or

inforcements to the sultan's forces.
Rebels Attack Cumana.
Caracas , Jan. 14. About 1,100 revo
lutionists , under General Morales , attacked -
tacked Cumana , which was defended
by BOO government troops. On Jan. C ,
after a hard fight which lasted for
seven hours and which was witnessed
by the Urltlsh cruiser Tribune , the
revolutionists abandoned the field ,
leaving 200 of their number prisoners.
The statement has been obtained from
rebel prisoners that if Cumana had
Deem taken the revolutionary isauer
would have allowed his soldiers to
sack the town for eight hours. The
revolutionists have been very active
for the past week , knowing , as they
do , that If the blockade Is raised their
cause will become much more difficult.
Marconi Company Incorporates.
Montreal , Jan. 14. The Marconi
Wireless Telegraph company of Can
ada was organized hero yesterday with
a capital of $5,000,000. It Is stated
that the capital has all been sub
scribed. The Canadian company ac
quires the station at Glace Bay , C. B.
Transvaal to Contribute $150,000,000.
Marconi left Cape Breton last night
for the wireless station at Cape Cod.
He will test the apparatus there and
when everything Is In order , a mes
sage prepared and signed by Presi
dent Roosevelt will be transmitted
across the Atlantic to King Edward.
