The evidence Introduced at tills ro- eltal was that the pupils , especially these who were advanced in the course , had attained a clour understanding of the underlying principles of music and nil of them were taught to work out those principles to their own satisfaction nud that of their toaohor. It wan appar ent that , much attention was given to the cultivation of independence and self reliance on the part of ouch pupil , that wont toward the development of tlu individuality of each The selections were olmraotorly.ed by the breadth of tone , freedom of style , clearness of phrasing , intelligent Intorprototion and the playing wna with the lifo and spirit that onlv intellliront minlls can acnulro through an clllclont instructor whoso whole heart is in the work. It waa demonstrated that the pupils were taught that music is something to bo loved and enjoyed and that It Is a pleasure to bo shared with others. The thought was impressed on ono that it is the duty of every musicinn to bo useful to the community in which they reside , nud if all do their share the community will bo bettered , as no evil lurks in mnsio of the character they are taught to love. Misses Nfllio Hamlloy and Maud I'i ' ' Tanuohlll added to the plonsuro of the * ovouiugs and the balancing of the pro grams with elocutionary numbers that were much appreciated. O'Connor of the city schools was very line and Impressed these who hoard him with the conviction that ho had a deep BOUSO of the value of a thorough musical education. The eight and six hand numbers were heartily appreciated and the execution was excellent. The ouo cause for regret was that owing to sick- iioss Miss Blakoly was not able to play. . I'font WcilncRilny'i Dally. Slnco tlio mooting hold last availing at the olty hall no doubt rouialns but that Norfolk will celebrate the Fourth of July with a good , rousing , patriotic demonstration this year aud that It will bo n marker hi the history of all the celebration * oversold in this section of the stato. It Is hoped that inasmuch as Norfolk has not celebrated for alx years neighboring towns will call this tholr year oil and unite with ] the people of this olty in spreading [ all the pout up enthusiasm which a long rest fosters ever the Norfolk atmosphere. The soliciting couimittoo reported gratifying success at last night's mooting [ and .has moro than $800 snb.soribod for the various features of the day , with the prospects , that amount to almost an ab solute certainty , that the amount to bo at the disposal of the committee will not bo loss than $ 1,200 , and which will bo a warrant that the features * to bo provided for the entertainment of the people will bo of the boat. On motion , the mooting last night do- cldod that the matter of conducting the celebration , appointing committees and making ether arrangements for the cole bratiou should b'o loft with the oxoou tlvo couimittoo of the Commorclal club , of which W. II. Bnohol/ . should bo con stituted treasurer. The said committee is composed { of the following named citl/.ons : W. II. Bnohol/ , Sol G. Mayor , 0. II. Reynolds , John R. Hays , aud C. D. Joiikins. The commit too has boon called to moot this afternoon and will issue a call for another public mooting where suggestions will bo roooived aud other preliminaries to the celobrat'ou attended to. The proposition of providing a free bowery dance aftoruoou aud ovouiug with free lemonade is being considered as ouo of the features and it has further boon suggested that seats bo provided for to oxtoud along both sides of the fltroot in the business portion of the city where the people moy rest between events. These matters aud others wil bo considered soon aud It may be expected poctod that the Norfolk celobratiou' bo one of unusual oujoymeut to these who attend. Wholesalers arc Benefited. Last week with the Omaha jobber was ono which surprised thoni on ac count of the bulk of the trade , whirl for the third wook'Jin Miy was tl o heaviest in the history of the city. The effect of the extension of Jthe Ell horn road into northern Nebraska was felt appreciably , as ouo stock aud con siderable additous to present stocks along the proposed line of that road were sold by local jobbers. This terri tory will undoubtedly increase in pop ulation with the comiug of ; the ] rail road and when the road is built it will come into closer business relations with this city. The dealers have in the past douo considerable business at Sioux Citv. Soma of the increased activity last week , in the opinion of jobbers , is due the trade excursion , aud this makes thorn all the moro anxious to take tha trip into northern Nebraska. This territory has boon debatable ground be tween Omaha and Sioux City for mauy years. Omaha has the bettor of the situation in many places , but it still divides with the Iowa town to an extent not satisfactory to the local dealers. Plans for this trip are being arranged , but will not bo ready to be announced for a day or two , as questions between the club couimittoo aud the railroad have not been settled. Omaha Bee. An Example of Push. In an editorial under the head "Adver tising" the Nebraska City Tribune of recent date holds Norfolk up to its readers as an example to be followed in the following : "The little town of Norfolk - folk , up above Omaha , has raised $1,600 for the support of a baseball team. Nor folk has loss than 4,000 Inhabitants ; just about half what Nebraska City | has. It has hardly any laboring population , having only one factory , the boot sugar mill , and that operated only a few months in the year. It cannot , there fore , have anything like the class oi merchants that Nebraska Olty has. Still they seem to have a vivid idea of the value of a base ball club as an ad vertisment. Daring the year when the "Argo" ball olub was active , it carriec the name of Nebraska City and its rep utation as a hustling town * about the country , aa nothing else could have done for the same cost. Our merchants cauuotjgivo railroad excursions enlarge largo scale , as the Omaha people do , bn they can , if they choose , get some very good advertising at a comparatively low cost by helping to support Dave Allen's ball club.
