Mrs. P. A. MoNeely is on the sick list.
Chief O. E. Hartford was honored by
being elected first vice president of the
Volunteer State Firemen's association
at Nebraska City yesterday.
The cold wave forecasted by a late
dispatch yesterday afternoon has un
doubtedly arrived , but is not up to this
time as fierce as had been anticipated.
It is expected that the Norfolk dele
gation to the state meeting of the Vol
unteer Firemen's association will return
on the evening train from the east over

The ladies of the Presbyterian church
mot yesterday and organized a mission

It is expected that Mr. A. D. Pratt

at 4 o'clock. Deputy Grand Master
Workman F. G. Simmons has now

There is nothing sensational in the re
sult of the voting contest today , Miss

Nenow still heading the list by a hand
some plurality. _ Miss Allbery agoin ad
vances to third place. It is known that
a great ( foal of interest is being taken in
this contest and that the coupon of
nearly every city subscriber is being
harbored for the final effort , and it
would not be at all surprising if the
vote of Bomo of the loaders runs up into
'the thousands when the contest closes
Monday noon. The coupon will bo
printed for the last time tomorrow
evening.
It is intended that the young lady
who is the winner in the contest shall
bo able to give her five friends the most
enjoyable evening possible. The play

well worth attending. The seats se

the happiness of the young ladies will

with the Norfolk school and is laying
plans for its conduct during tbo coming
year. He announces that the school
will bo kept open during the entire
summer and hopes to increase the at
tendance. Ho has had 200 pupils in the
Sioux City college this winter.

dition to their blacksmith office. They
also put in a lot of machinery of now
designs. Wo have four first class black

The local telephone company has
everythingabont finished. All they have
to do yet is to stretch the wires. They
have 41 phonos. The central office is

Friday evening Mrs. Samuel Ktirpgo
woit died at' her home in Green Garden
and was buried in the Lutheran cemetery
there on Monday , Rov. Donninger of
ficiating. She was 58 years old , and
eaves her husband , five sons and two
daughters. Two of the boys are farm
tig near Battle Creek.
A marriage took place today , Wednes
day , in the German Lutheran church on
Buffalo Creek. The contracting parties
were : Mr.Otto Hofman and Miss Minna
Weltx. Mr. Hofmau is the oldest son of
Rov. Hofman of Battle Creek and is
arming 10 miles southwest of town.
The lady is the oldest daughter of Mr.
Woltz , a prosperous farmer living about
0 miles from hero in the same dirco-
ion.

ering for many years , was about 70
years old , and leaves a big family of
