For the benefit of the public
generally , I will state that by let
ter of October 3 , 191.1 , I am in
structed to state that the aban
doned Fort Niobrara , Military Re
serve , will not be opened to home
stead filing , but will be appraised
and sold at public sale under the
Act of July 5th 18S4.
, Therefore a squatter on any of
the lands , cannot acquire any bene
fits or rights , and there is no way
in "which he could be allowed to
make entry on the lands. J. C.
Scott , Special Agent G. L. 0.
Judge Kinkaid has been inform
ed by the secretary of war and the
secretary of the interior that they
will await action on the bill that
has been introduced by him in
congress before making Any plans
to dispose of Ft. Niobrara military
reservation at public sale. Under
the act of July 5th , 18Si abandon
ed military reservation are turned
over .to the interior department
and sold. Mr. Kinkaid's bill pro
vides for the opening of FtNio -
brara under the homestead law ,
and he is very confident that by
next April or May the land will
be opened for settlement. Most
of the land south of the river will
N
come under the Kinkaid act giving
the settler 640 acres. The land
on the north of the river and canyons
yens is extra good and will be giv
en in 160 acre tracts. Since his
visit here he will amend his bill so
that several choice sections south
and f " east . . of the river will be sub-
ject'tor homestead entry" in tracts
of 160 acres only.

it is nearing completion and has
room enough in the broad expanse

the thousands of fishers and keep
the lakes well stocked throughout
this part of the state so you won't
have to wait for a strike when fish
are biting. Mr. Meredith's wife
and son are here with him. L.

afternoon we noticed two young
ladies leading a team of horses tea
a buggy and hitching them on
