Thursday , September 28. 1911. The first big step to nominate Senator La Eollette for the presi dency is now on. A conference is called to meet in Chicago on Octo ber 16 to map put a systamatic campaign. It is said more than 200 influential republicans will be at the meeting , among , them are Governor Aldrich and Eepresen- tative Norris of Nebraska. Conservatives Win in Canada. Wheat prices all over the coun try advanced when the reciprocity bill was voted down by the con servative Canadians at Thursday's election in Montreal. At Duluth the advance in the price of wheat was the most mark ed , at the opening of the market ITriday morning the price went up 4 : cents. At Kansas City the ad vance was 3 cents and at Chicago 2& cents , On the local market Tuesday the price of wheat went up 4 cents a bushel. The best was quoted at 92 cents yesterday. Flour advanced 10 cputs per hun dred , bran and shorts each 5 cents per hundred pounds. Land Office Notes. In the contest of Fred W. Blank vs. John Belles , the decison of the local office is in favor of the entry- man. In the contest of Chancy A. Brown vs. Osias Eeinstein , the de cision of the local office is in favor of the contestant. In the contest of Howard Ire land vs. Bennie J. Brown , the de cision of the local offiice is in fav or of the entryman. During the month of August the local office allowed fifty-nine homestead entries , aggregating 28,075 acres ; sixty-seven final proofs , aggregating 32,338 acres ; thirty-five public sales , aggrega ting 5,820 acres. In the case of the United States vs. Kobert P. Parriot , who at tempted to make proof on a quart er section in Keya Paha county several years ago , the general land office sustains the decision of the local office , and holds against the entryman. It was recently announced that hereafter credit for residence up on land before it was subject to entry would not be allowed to an v entryman when he made final proof. The ruling has been mod ified to the extent that persons who instituted contests against ex isting entries and moved on the ] and before September 2i , 1910 , may be allowed credit for resi dence before their entries were allowed. The funeral of Edward Parry , who was drowned near Spokane , Wash. , last week , was held from the Presbyterian church in Valen tine last Sunday morning. The Eagle lodge of which he was a member had charge of the services. Dr. Barakat preached the funeral sermon. The body was taken to Kewanee for interment. i yvi r h * Elmer Bristol went to Kilgore on a short business trip Monday night. A Postal Savings Bank will be established at the Valentine post office on October 21. Mr. and Mrs. John Kazda de parted Tuesday night for a six months' tour of the Pacific coast. Mrs. E. Powers of Spark visit ed with her daughter Sophia and other relatives several days this week. OraT < Veldon went up to St. Mary's Mission the first of tl e week to do the lathing on the new building. Eoscoe Fischer went out to the home of Kay Grimes south of Ainsworth last Saturday on a hunting trip. Mrs. J. H. Quigley entertained the Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church on Wednes day afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Bristol , who has been at College View sanitarium for ssveral week's , is expected to arrive home tomorrow night. Miss Effie Hutchinson of Nor- den has gone to spend the winter in California. She was accompa nied by Mrs. Swim of Ainsworth. Word comes from Jack Cronin , who went up to Hot Springs last week , that treatments he is taking there are doing him some good and that his health is improving. While riding her bicycle down Catherine street Monday afteroor , Rosa Gassan collided with Vern Liyport. The handle bar struck Vern ia the face knocking him down and causing a severe bruise below the eye. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Wilder , who have been visiting the latter's sister , Mrs. Frank Fischer for sev eral weeks left for Neligh Sunday morning. After a visit there and in Council Bluffs they will go to their home in Seattle. Mrs. Frances Seib was called to Pittsburgh , Pa. , Monday on ac count of the death of her little four year old son , George Seib. The little fellow had been sick but a short time with the croup. The first message informed her that he was dying and before train time another came saying he was dead. Mrs. Seib reached Pittsburgh Wednesday morning in time for the funeral. in lYlemorium. Whereas , It has pleased our Heavenly Father , in His Infinite Wisdom , to remove from our midst our esteemed brother and fellow member , EDWARD PARRY who died Sept. 16th , 1911 , and , Whereas , The life which made our associanion with him pleasant , is at an end , and the gates of death are closed upon our further inter course ; and , Whereas , by his many ennobling traits of character he has endeared himself to us , and in his career has left a worthy example to his friends and fellow members ; and , Whereas , Those manly qualities which he possessed influenced us in a sincere desire to testify to an appreciation of his life amongst us ; be it therefore , llesolved , That in the death of Edward Parry who was a mem- bar of Valentine Aerie , No. 599 , F. O. E. , we sincerely deplore the loss of one to whom we had be come affectionately attached by long association and by relations which were never marred by the commission on his part of a dis loyal or unfriendly act. Resolved , that a copy of these resolutions be presented to the relatives of the deceased , and that the same be attached to and be come a part of the minutes of this Order , and that they be published in the papers of Valentine , Nebr.
