Noted Educators Will Address Ne-
braska Teachers.
When the teachers of the state
of Nebraska meet in annual con
vention on November , 9 , 10 and
11 in Omaha , they will have an
opportunity of hearing Dr. Wm.
C. Davidson , superintendent of
schools of Washington , D. C. ,
Dr. A. E. Winship , of Boston ,
and'Henry Curtis of Clarks Uni
versity , speak on subjects that
are near to the hearts of every
teacher. Miss Edith Lathrop ,
president of the State Association ,
has secured the acceptance of these
noted educators. Efforts are also
being made to get Wood row AVil-
son , Governor of New Jersey , to
speak at the convention. The re
appearance of Dr. Davidson in
Omaha will bring joy to the state
teachers , for he is held in high
esteem by the organization. Last
year he was elected president of
the association but was forced to
resign when he accepted the su-
perintendency of the Washington
schools. Both Dr. Winship aud
Dr. Curtis are well known in ed
ucational circles and their appear
ance on the program assures the
success of the convention.
From the way acceptances to
attend the convention are being
received by Miss Lathrop , a con
servative estimate places the num
ber of teachers at 5,000 who will
attend the meetings.
A bureau for the reservation of
rooms has been opened. Teachers
desiring accommodations can se
cure them in advance by writing
the Y. M. C. A. under whose au
spices the bureau is being con
ducted.
Wilkinson-Gaskili
On Wednesday evening at S
o'clock a pretty wedding took
place at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
( j. M. Gaskill , when their cousin
Miss Anna M. Gaskill , and Mr.
Ernest B. Wilkinson of Kennedy
were united in the holy bonds of
matrimony by Eev. J. E. Parsons
of the Methodist church , the im
pressive ring ceremony being
used.
The bride wore a very pretty
dress of white silk mull embroid
ered in lavender. The rooms
were tastefully decorated with
roses , chrysanthemums and smi-
laxand the color scheme , lavender
and 'white , was carried out in
every detail. Only a few rel
atives and close friends witnessed
the ceremony. A dainty four
course luncheon was served.
Mrs. Wilkinson has lived in
Cherry county a number of years
and has a host of friends who wish
her many happy years of married
.life. Mr. Wilkinson has a ranch
near Kennedy and is well known
and liked by everyone.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilkinson left
on the eleven o'clock passenger
for Foster , Nebr. After a short
yisit there they will go to Omaha
and Nebraska City. At the depot
they were liberally showered with
rice. When they return from
their honeymoon they will make
their home on the ranch near
Kennedy.

This rainy weather is hard on
the hay makers.
Corn is very good in this section
in spite of the midsummer drouth.
C.r. r. Ilamer hada cow die out
of the bunch he is herding for Mr.
Tillson.
Mr. Smith will enter vegetables
at the Norden fair this week. He
took first prize on onions at the
Valentine Corn Show.
People who ride or drive
through a man's pasture , taking
down the fence and leaving it open -
pen , will force their neighbors
to use their most stringent
rights against these trespassers.
G. E. Burdick had his best cow
foundered and the whole bunch
hurt from a buggy being driven
over his pasture fence leaving it
down.
Mr. Tillson has the right to be
pleased and proud over capturing
first prize at the Corn Show.x x
suit of clothes , a meerschaum pipe
and a five dollar piece are ' mighty
handy things to have around. "
Valentine was generous in the
prizes offered. It is hoped this
may be the beginning of a perma
nent fair organization.
Owing to the rain the S. S. con
vention at Mr. Hittle's grove , was
practically a failure. After noon
about fifty people assembled and
listened to a very interesting ad
dress from Mr. Petty crew. Mr.
Petty crew came through the rain
and spoke in the damp grove in an
east wind , to a small audience who
appreciated the effort he made to
come and help improve and sus
tain the S. S. work.
Many from the country who
visited Valentine park for the first
time during the carnival'are lavish
in their praise of its great natural
beauty. The steps and seats of
cement , the rustic stove of cobble
stones , the springs , the lake , the
rippling Minnechaduza and the
overarching trees all contribute to
the charming scene. Valentine
has the nucleus of a park that can
be made , "A thing of beauty and
a joy forever" . The judicious
planting of trees , shrubs , vines
and flowers ; enclosing it with an
ornamental fence ; arranging to
collect and care for specimens of
our native wild animals are among
the questions of vital importance
to the commissioners of this young
park. Some of the native ani
mals , the bison , the deer and the
antelope are almost extinct , but
we still have the wolf , coyote ,
beaver , badger , wildcat , raccoon ,
prairie dog and many others that
would be a great attraction to our
younger people.
