"The liuinj there is very sensitive and brown ii color , not red. as in the lower nose Men are more sensitive to odors tbai women. Scientific tests have shown , believe , that , while many men can de tect the smell of prussic acid evei when there is only one part of thi acid to two million parts of water the average woman fails to detect thi smell if there are less than ten parts o * the acid. Though the white man ii much less sensitive to odors than thi savage , a prolonged stay in a part o the world where smells , are few puts i very firite edge on the sense of smell Dr. Nansen has declared tbat whei returning from the ice world to Fran ; Josef Land he knew when he was approaching preaching the assistant he had lei there by smelling his scented soap lonj before he saw him. lie could , too when approaching the hut haVe giver an inventory of the stores there , as h < smelled everything it contained sepa rately and distinctly. " Foxe's "Book of Martyrs" was pub lished in March , 1 ( > 52 , as the "Actes and Monuments" of the martyrs , a title borrowed from an earlier book , says the London Chronicle. The fa mous volume might never have ap peared at all but for the association of Foxe with the printer Day of Alders- gate street , in whose business Foxe took an active part. On the tomb stone of Day in the church of Little Bradley , Suffolk , the partnership is thus immortalized : He et a Fox to wright how martyrs runno By death to lyfe ; Fox ventured paynes and health To give them light ; Daye spent in print his wealth. Even in those days the alien prob lem troubled industry , for we find Foxe appealing to Cecil to relax the law and permit his friend Day to en gage more than four foreign printers. Iron In Plants. Iron is the substance which gives the green appearance to foliage. It forms a constituent part of chloro phyll and is the green coloring matter which stains the bodies inside the cells of leaves , called plastids. "When the first organized food is being formed in the leaves from water and carbonic acid gas a certain amount of energy is required. This is obtained from the sun's rays , but the work of absorb ing it is carried out by the chlorophyll. It requires very little iron for the pro duction of all the cholrophyll found in a crop , and nearly all soils contain an abundant supply. The Human Clock. The Spanish painter Ribera. Mr. TJal- dane Macfall recalls in his "History of Painting. " worked with such fervor that all count of time was lost to him. "He made a living clock to check the passing hours. His servant came ev ery hour to the studio to say In a loud and stately voice , 'Another hour has gone. Signer Cavaliere ! ' " Ha Won. "Before you kiss me.
