from the ranch the first of the week
to take their daughter Miss Maude
home from school.
Frank Kludsiskofsky and a son
were in town Monday. Frank has
had a lame foot for some time and
had a doctor lance it.
Childrens day will be observed by
the Gordon Valley Sunday Schoo1.
A picnic dinner and program will
be given in J. W. Daniels fine grove.
Elmer Bristol has resigned his
position in the Red Front hardwaie
and has gone to the reservation to
work as a carpenter for Chas. And
erson.
John Rader a new resident living
12 miles north of Croobston and a
friend Cbas. Waltz from Dubuque ,
la. , who is visiting him were in
town Monday.
Sam Hudson has enclosed his
range with a very substantial -four
wire fence. This will make ranch
ing more comfortable and prevent
damage to crops.
J. S. Reece , who lost his barn ly
fire some time ago has rebuilt a
more commodius one than was de
stroyed. This loss was heavy as
no insurance was carried.
William Bachelor has bought an
interest in a ranch north of Mer-
riman. He will soon take charge
of it. We regret to lose these
neighbors very much but wish them
well in their new home.
Mr. and Mrs. Slonecker went
up to Hot Springs last Saturday
night where Mrs. Slonecker ex
pects to take treatment for rheu
matism which has bothered and
pained her very much this spring.
Roger Breheney was in town
last Thursday , paying taxes and
transactiong other business. He
had his shoulder thrown out of
place last fall and is getting along
all right but is going to Hot
Springs to swim for a few weeks
in hopes of getting better use of
his arm.
Ollie , Edna and Effie daughters
of Joe Seadore came to see the town
Tuesday. They got on the evening
train at Wood Lake after mtssing
the afternoon freight and were dis
appointed in not finding a show of
some kind or a dance going on as
they expected to have a good time
and had to be contented with seeing
the sights around town in which '
they seemed to take much interest j
as they evidently do not get away
from home ottec. They live setfen
miles nojth of Wood Lake.
Court will be in session June 12.
L. K. Travis and wife are in
town visiting and on business.

to visit his mother whom he hasn't

timer here and has promised us a
writeup of the early days some
time.

George Christopher is in tne hos
pital at Omaha. He had an opera
tion verformed last winler which
did not [ heal properly and blood
poison resulted. WeQhope to see
George at home soon again restor
ed to his usual health.
Dr. Lewis and Alfred went
down to Arizona last week in
hopes ot benefitting the young
man's health. Young Alfred has
been in very poor health the past
few years and though able to be
up of late and walking about some
they hope to see him grow strong
er by a less vigorous climate.

We hear that there is a new
Episcopal Church at Kennedy built
on- the old site by Arnesen and Sed-
erstram carpenters. Rev. Ware
has been holding services out that
way considerably of late and is
largely through his efforts that the
chuich was built. The building is a
frame 18x30. They nave been
holding Sunday school there lately ,
Mrs. Elizabeth Brown , mother
of Mrs. George , Mrs. Hudson ,
Mrs. McCrea , Mrs. Eaton and
Henry Brown , died Sunday morn
ing at the home of her daughter
Mrs. George in Valentine. She
was taken to Sparks Monday
where she was laid beside her
husband who preceded her about
six years ago. Mrs. Brown was
getting quite old and feeble. The
Democrat extends sympathy to
the bereaved relatives.
