Omaha last Friday to take a course
in undertaking and embalming.
Mrs. Olson returned last Satur
day from Omaha where she had
been in a hospital for several
weeks. It is hoped she will regain
her health.

Pearl Hummel were married Sun
day evening , May 21 , at the home
of the groom's parents in this city ,
Judge Quigley officiating.
Miss Driscoll stopped off here
from Friday till Monday , enroute
from Chicago to Chadron where
she begins her duties as an instruc
tor in the Chadron state normal.
Mrs. Elsie McClelland stopped
off in Valentine Friday night en
robe-to her home at Fullerton
from Hot Springs where she had
been to see her father , D. E.
Sherman.
J. W. Dennon and Jeff Cabler
drove up from Penbrook Tuesday
on business. Both are new set
tlers here , one buying theBurdick
place and the other the Jake
Klein farm.
Stinislau Ivrajewski and daugh
ter , Ilattie , spent two days in
Valentine last week on business.
They live at Nenzel and occasion
ally find time and profitable as
well to come to Valentine.
Jesse Brosius and wife was in
town last Monday. Jesse told us
that he has piped water into his
house which makes it much more
convenient for his wife. He ssys

acres of corn a day.

Strickler were married by Col.
Judge Quigley last Tuesday. The
bride and groom are of Kilgore ,
Neb. , and were accompanied here
by John Strickler and Miss Celia
Rothleutner who witnessed the
marriage ceremony.
Mrs. Frank Bray ton and two
boys returned Tuesday evening
from Ch'co , Gal. , where they
spent the past six months visiting
Mrs. i Bray ton's parents. Frank
has been very busy the past week
getting his house in order for the
arrival of his family and will be
glad to board at home now for a
while.
Wra. Palmer is home from a
three munths' trip on the western
coast where he went to see
George Bock and wife at Salem ,
Oregon. He also visited Port
land and Spokane , Wash. , and
saw many former Cherry county
people on his trip. He is feeling
better and wants to go out there to
live. Mr. Bock and wife were
here last fall and it was with them
that he spent most of his time at
Salem.

J. E. Thackrey and H. A. Lore
were assisting S. T. Wooster with
his house last week.
The stockmen are breathing
normally once more. The stock
are in pastures again.
The splendid rains of late bring
smiles to the faces of the people.
Grass is growing splendidly.
Many of our citizens are making
final proof on their claims this
spring. This makes the passing
os homestead life and the country
is gradually taking on more and
better homes.
The quartette composed of Mis
ses Lore and Ellis , C. W. Bennett
and C. S. Eeece , with Mrs. J. C.
Keece as organist , has resumed
their regular practice each Satur
day afternoon.
It is said the fish positively re
fuse to bite now unless one has a
license to show them. We are not
in favor of the law requiring citi
zens to secure license to fish in
their own county.
We believe it is time for the
papers of the country to change
the cartoons of the farmer. They
should show him as an intelligent ,
progressive person ; one whose ap
pearance shows business , energy
and reasonable culture.
Sunday school was organized at
the Gordon Valley school house
May 14. Will meet at 2:30 : p. m.
M. Carr was elected superintendent
dentto succeed himself. The
meetings are interesting and all
are cordially incited to attend.
- We are pleased to tell that new
homes have been built by Messrs.
Carr and Baker. These buildings
are comfortable and convenient.
These neighbors are growing old
and all rejoice to see them in such
pleasant surroundings. It is fine
to see those who have met the
trials of business for many years
triumph , and spend their declin
ing years where all is well.
Miss Blanche Springer returned
to her home at Eli Monday eve
ning after a week's visit with
friends in Valentine. Her uncle
visited Valentine Monday on busi
ness and accompanied her home.
Miss Springer is 'a ' talented mu
sician and composer of music. Her
"Provo Waltz'5 is entitled to a
place on the piano of every Cherry
county musician.
